great movie, and is an outstanding form of popular culture. There are many different events that take place throughout this film that show this.

Field of Dreams stars Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones. Costner plays a guy named Ray who, one day while working in his corn field, hears a voice. The voice tells him, If you build it, he will come. After he hears the voice a few times he tears down his corn field, and builds a baseball field. Jones plays a retired author named Thomas Mann. Mann hears these voices also, and understands what Ray is going through. Reluctantly Mann goes along with Ray. After awhile old members of the White Sox, who got banned from baseball for life, appear out of the corn field. They now have a chance to play ball again. Mann ends up going back into the corn with the players in the end.

This movie is more than just a movie about a sport. It has many other significant meanings. First of all, this film shows loyalty between Ray's wife and him. Most wives would think their husbands were crazy if they told them they heard voices, which were telling them to build a baseball field. It's going to take a ton of money, and also a lot of knowledge on how to go about doing it. It show how she believed in him when no one else would listen. She stuck by her husband like a wife is supposed to do, and gave him support when needed. I believe a lot of Americans liked seeing that type of commitment between two people, especially in a world where it's not as prevalent as it should be.

The second point this film shows is how much Ray loves baseball. Baseball has been a major part of American society and culture since the late 1800's. It is known as America's pastime. Throughout the film it is made very evident of the love Ray displays for the great game of baseball. The amount of money he spends to make the field says enough. One scene shows Ray on a tractor as he is plowing a field in preparation for the building of the stadium. His daughter is sitting on his lap. She is asking him all kinds of questions about baseball, and Ray answers all of them in a way that you can tell he loves talking about it. Another scene shows him driving across the country to find help for what he is doing. The sacrifices he makes for the game are incredible. Being a huge baseball fan this movie shows everything that is right about baseball. It shows that it is a game, and should be played for the fun of it.

The third point this film makes is it allows the dreams of the players to live on. People having dreams is what makes the world happen. Without having a dream no one goes anywhere. In this film members of the old White Sox team that got banned from baseball are able to get back into the game, and once again live out the dreams and fantasies of playing the game they love. It kind of gives people hope, in a sense, not to give up.

Still another point this film makes is in the world of relationships. The film shows the relations between a father and son. Ray finds out that one of the players who comes back to play is his father. He realizes that is what the voice was telling him. His father was the one who would come back if he built the field. While he was growing up he didn't have the greatest relationship with his father. His father died while he was at a rather young age. Ray is aware that it is his father. Ray's father is young so he has no idea he is his son. That didn't matter though. Just to know that his father is back once again is enough for Ray. This is a problem many people in the world face. Lots of fathers and sons don't have good relationships with each other. There are many reasons for this. This movie is one that people can relate with in a way. Many times there are things left unsaid when one dies. This could influence people to make things happen while the opportunity is still there, and to not waste the time they have.

In conclusion I would just like to say that while there are many aspects of the film industry that are bad for society, this film shows nothing but good things about the film industry. Like I said previously, it is more than just a movie about a sport. It goes greater in depth with different situations. These are situations people can relate with, and that they care about. This is a good example of popular culture. I do not feel as though it exploits or distracts people from other forms of culture, however. Some movies obviously do, but this is not that type of film.

Gel Test successful after the rd time.

Section 7 Analysis

There are several differences between the Kiwi Jam and Apple Jam.

The flavour of both the Kiwi and the Apple jam are both that of sweet and fruity however there are some differences. The Kiwi jam is definetly a much more sugary tasting and sweet, where as the Apple jam is more bland with a touch of ginger.

The Kiwi jam was a light brown, dark green colour with black kiwi seeds and little white pieces of the kiwi fruit. The Apple jam was more of a tan brown in colour with a bit of yellow texture to it with slightly large pieces of apple in the jam.

Section 8 Recommendations

There are lots of things that can go wrong in cooking jams and there are a few tips and recommendations that could be suggested for a better outcome.

Always remember to sterilise your jars before you cook your jam.

You should leave the sugar and kiwi in the bowel for longer than the recipe, so the sugar has a lot of time to absorb.

Be sure after you bring the fruit to the boil that you then reduce the temperature until the fruit is at a gentle simmer. It is important that you don't have the temperature too high to speed up the cooking process as you will only make the fruit stick to the bottom of your pan and will ultimately result in burnt, discoloured jam.

Remember safety is the most important thing, making this jam can be very dangerous if you do not follow the safety precautions.

Section Conclusion

In conclusion from the prac, my favourite of the jams would have to be the Kiwi because I liked the sweet taste. Perhaps if the Apple jam had more flavour to it I would enjoy it more. The apple I think needed to be cooked longer as it tasted not finished.

I think definetly the Kiwi jam came out better than the Apple jam although as jam was a little burnt. It tasted better and the appearance of the Kiwi jam I think looked a lot better than the Apple jam. The Apple jam was boring.

In this article I will talk about whether I think Malcolm X is an American hero or not . Also I will write some of his quotes and share my opinion on them. I think as far as what he was trying to do before he died he was not an American Hero. I think that if he would have lived to finish what he had started for his African American people and for what he believed in with his Muslim religion a American hero title would have been given to him.

Malcolm X was a very intelligent man when it came to speaking out for what he believed in, or how he thought Black Americans should be treated. Malcolm was an out spoken person but as far as an American hero it was something he really didn't fall under. I believed that an American hero is someone who can help people with the different struggles that they are facing in their life without violence but with smart action. Don't get me wrong, what Malcolm did show his people how to fight with words. His action were not always the smartest thing to do.

To a lot of white people he was not an American hero, but the most of the black he was. Right now my knowledge was not but I really don't know much about what he has contributed to the freedom and right that we have to day.

One of the quotes that I will reply to is every time I here Martin Luther King I Have A Dream speech, I think Negro leaders have to come out of the clouds and wake up and stop dreaming and start facing reality. (interview with Claude Lewis (December 164) . What I fell this quote talk about is the speech that Dr. King had given was not a bad thing to think about but as far as where we were in a society we needed to deal what we were facing now and think what we wanted life to be like in the future and deal with it later.

Swimming was invented before recorded history. Humans discovered how to swim by accident. A person probably fell into the water and struggled to shore using a dog-paddle stroke. There was an Egyptian hieroglyph for swimming dating from 500 BC. The ancient Greeks and Romans made swimming an important part of their military training programs. There have been known swimming contests that were organized in Japan as early as the 1st century BC.

During the Middle Ages in Europe, swimming declined in popularity. People felt that the water was contaminated and a source of disease. Not everyone feared the water, however, Louis XI reportedly swam daily in the Seine.

During the early 1th century, swimming enjoyed a revival, especially in England, Lord Byron swam the Dardanelles river, to prove that the mythological hero Leander could have done it. Organized competitive swimming began in England in the 1840s.

In 1844 the British were surprised when two American Indians demonstrated the efficiency of a method of swimming similar to the modern crawl. The British still swam with the head above the water, a holdover from the days when people believed that the water was contaminated.

An overhand stroke was introduced into England in 187 by J. Arthur Trudgen, who had seen South American Indians using this method to swim really fast. When the flutter kick was introduced, the modern Australian crawl was born, and this stroke has since become the most common and most important swimming stroke.

FITNESS COMPONENTS

To swim well u need to know how to coordinate your arms and legs to get you through the water. At first you will probably need to have lessons. Also to swim u need agility and just gravity. Swimming also requires balance and quickness in some cases.

Not much is needed to know if you want to swim.

Swimming improves heart and lung efficiency, enhances muscle strength and endurance, improves flexibility, and reduces stress. Its easy on the joints, and uses more muscles than most other forms of exercise. Although swimming burns a great deal of calories, recreational swimmers tend to lose less weight than would be expected from other types of aerobic activity. Scientists say that cold water removes heat from the body, stimulating appetite to keep the body warm. Exposure to cold water may encourage the body to maintain fat stores for insulation. To lose weight by swimming, its necessary to cut down on the calories you eat, and to swim fast enough and long enough.

Swimming can burn more than 660 calories an hour when performed correctly and causes less injuries to joints and muscles than aerobics or jogging. It takes only three hours a week of strenuous swimming to improve flexibility, increase strength and build cardiovascular endurance. Swimming provides a good aerobic workout if 5% of the total laps are performed at maximum intensity. However, only 5% of those who swim do so at an aerobic pace.

Although few doubt the aerobic benefits of swimming, studies comparing swimming with jogging, results found that swimmers lost less body fat than joggers.

Apparently swimming causes an adjustment in how energy is burned, resulting in the burning of more carbohydrates than body fat. One reason might be that swimmers retain more body fat to insulate and maintain body heat. However, swimming works both the upper and lower body which jogging does not.

WHAT IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENT TO MASTER IN YOUR SPORT? EXPLAIN HOW THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED.

More than half of all Americans cant swim. Drownings claimed 5,00 American lives in 10 and is the fourth leading cause of accidental deaths for children under 5.

Many feel figures are actually higher, since deaths occurring after resuscitation or hospitalization usually arent attributed to the original drowning. Many lives could be saved if people would just learn to swim. Correct swimming doesnt come naturally to the body and cant be learned overnight. Those swimmers who are exhausted after half a lap need more instruction. The most common swimming problem is incorrect breathing which causes individuals to expend more energy than necessary. Coordinating breathing with proper head rotation is the key to proficient swimming. Proper instruction is the only way you can learn this, it is the key component to swim well.

WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR SPORT?

The most unique thing about swimming is the actual racing in the water, you dive off blocks and swim as fast as u can in as many different styles and lengths.

LIST ONE POSITIVE PROFESSIONAL ROLE MODEL IN YOUR SPORT.

Mark Spitz, is a well known swimmer who won a record seven gold medals at the 17 Olympic Games. No athlete in any event had ever dominated a single Olympics as did Spitz. In 17 he won the 100- and 00-m freestyle and butterfly events, and was a member of the winning 4 X 100- and 4 X 00-m freestyle relay teams and the 4 X 100-m medley relay team. Spitz set world and 8 U.S. swimming records during his career.

He was a very big role model for aspiring young swimmers.

There is a child that has been neglected throughout his entire life and the only thing that he has ever found satisfaction in is music. As he grows into a young man his choice for styles of music he listens to changes. He starts to listen to R&B as well as rap, versus the Barney and Sesame Street music that he is used to. The rap music digs deep into his brain as pleasant, the way that he should live. So he begins to live by it. Everything that the music says he does. Through everything that was said and done, he finds himself behind the bars of the Memphis Correctional Facility with the charges of possession of narcotics, assault with a deadly weapon, and above all things two counts of attempted murder. Censorship is a very sensitive subject especially if you are in addressing it in the direction of the younger generation of today's society. It holds great controversy, as explained in the article Curbing the Sexploitation Industry written by Tipper Gore, in America today. In the article written by Sam Brownback, Free Speech Lyric, Liberty, and License, he jumps from topic to topic trying to get them to go toward the same direction. This subject has been the downfall and the uprising of the world of entertainment. The causes and consequences that is discussed in the two persuasive pieces written by Tipper Gore and Sam Brownback, has put some ease to the troubling mind or our troubling acts of society. Gore has an outstanding argument and she backs it up with impressive evidence. She has the stronger argument, no doubt.

The pathos of Gore's topic is very effective on her readers. She uses stories to support her topics. For example when she states that a five year old boy from Boston

recently got up from watching a teen slasher film and stabbed a two year old with a butcher knife (444). She has a distinct way of building her readers by being blunt. She doesn't sugar coat anything for her readers. She states, We don't need to put a childproof cap on the world, but we do need to remind the nation that children live in it, too (44). This stresses the importance of censorship on the younger generation. She is relaying how the downfall of the youth is in grave danger and it can easily be fixed. She also addresses the adults by asking the question Do we not see the problems that our children go through (448)? This explains Gore's feelings on this topic as well. She has a strategy of going to the core of the problem, the adults, and fixing it. That successively worked.

The pathos of Brownback is very interesting as I read it thoroughly. He has more of an emphasis on liberty involving speech that speech involving liberty. He addresses the youth as well, but he does it by quoting rock artists. An example is when he quotes Marilyn Manson, Music is such a powerful medium now. The kids don't even know who the President is, but they know what's on MTV. I think if anyone like Hitler or Mussolini were alive now, they would have to be rock stars (44). He also sends a message to the youth by saying, …no one spends more time listening to music then young people (448). He also states that statistics, that the average teenager listens to music around four hours a day (448). After that comment, he states another important one . less than an hour is spent on homework or reading, less than twenty minutes a day

talking to Mom, and less than five minutes talking to Dad (448). Every point he makes he puts refers back to the youth and links them to the modern styles, shock rock and rap.

By him addressing the youth, which still doesn't mean when he is put in a category with Gore, he is going to win. Gore has a very strong pathos.

When talking about logos, Gore's is simply, the welfare of the young society of today. She is just trying to protect them from some of the harmful things that the world conveys through music. She is trying to give the heads up on what one of the problems are and one of the solutions on how to make it better. There is a lack of understanding between that older generation and the younger generation. Gore is trying to reach the older generation by using the topics of the younger generation. Brownback has three different topics all linked to one topic. He speaks on the liberties of the society and he stresses media. Well everything that is watched on television isn't always what is true about the younger generation, Mr. Brownback! He wants to have a more controlled world than Gore. That's going to be a very hard thing to do, because of the controversy that comes with the topic. Gore's argument is much stronger, because her argument is far more realistic that Brownback's.

Refer to the ethos between the two authors they both agree that the youth is one of the most important topics to address, as the other one is the adult crowd. There is a difference between them as stated before. Gore is relaxed about the freedom of the youth, while Brownback is focused on eliminating, or more controlling the freedom of them. This is the impressions that these two articles reflects on me in general that is two of the most important subjects that is written about.
