Signal Input (220V) – It is an alternating current, which is defined as currents that reverse their direction periodically. Electric power is usually supplied in the form of 60-cycle-per-second alternating current. The signal input is responsible for powering up the system.

Transformer (step down) - For alternating currents, the job of changing voltage from one value to another can be done easily and cheaply by a transformer. A step-down transformer, which steps down the voltage supplied by the source, is the type used in household circuits. Meaning, if the supply of voltage is 220 volts, the voltage delivered to the customer's home is 110 volts.

Circuit Breaker – it is a safety device consisting of a strip of metal encased in a container that is inserted in an electric circuit. When the current becomes excessive, the strip will melt and it will break the circuit.

Rectifier – A rectifier is necessary to convert a signal having zero average value to one that has a nonzero average. However, the resulting pulsating dc signal is not pure dc or even a good representation of it.

Filter – A filter is a device that allows certain electrical frequencies to pass and restricts other frequencies that are not needed by the circuit.

IC Voltage Regulator – These units contain the circuitry for reference source, error amplifier, control device, and overload protection all in single IC chip. For a particular IC unit, device specifications list a voltage range over which the input voltage can vary to maintain the regulated output voltage over a range of load current.

A power supply can be built very simply using a transformer connected to the ac supply to step the voltage to a desired level, then rectifying with a half- or full-wave circuit, filtering the voltage using a simple capacitor filter, and finally regulating the dc voltage using an IC voltage regulator.

Decoder (7447) – a most useful operation obtained from MSI units is decoding from one binary code into another. A popular decoder unit is the 7447 IC, which accepts a 4-bit binary-coded-decimal character as input and then outputs the signals to directly operate a seven-segment display as used in meters and clocks.

LM555 (Timer) – Another popular analog/digital IC is the versatile 555timer unit. The IC is made up of a combination of linear comparators and digital flip-flop. The entire circuit is usually housed in an eight-pin DIP package with pin numbers.

IC (Inverter) – a simple but important digital circuit is the inverter. Using voltage levels of 0 and +5V, as an example, the inverter circuit will provide an output of 0V for an input of +5V and an output of +5V for an output of 0V. In logical terms, the inverter, having single-input and single-output terminals, provides the opposite output – a 1 output for 0 input, or vice versa.

LED – The light-emitting diode (LED) is, as the name implies, a diode that will give off visible light when it is energized. The process of giving off light by applying an electrical source of energy is called electroluminescence.

Switch – A switch is a device used to open or close an electric circuit or to transfer current from one conductor to another.

Capacitor – A capacitor is a two terminal device that consists of two conducting bodies that are separated by a non-conducting material. Such a non-conducting material is known as an insulator or a dielectric. Because of the dielectric, charges cannot move from one conducting body to the other within the device. They must therefore be transported between the conducting bodies via external circuitry connected to the terminals of the capacitor.

Making use of the transition capacitance of a reverse-biased p-n junction forms monolithic capacitive elements. At increasing reverse-bias potentials, there is an increasing distance at the junction between the p- and n-type impurities. The region between these oppositely doped layers is called the depletion region due to the absence of free carriers. The necessary elements of a capacitive element are therefore present – the depletion region has insulating characteristics that separate the two oppositely charged layers.

7-Segment Display – The 7-segment device can display numbers only. Note that the digit 8 is displayed by having all seven segments lit. There are four vertical segments and three across. If the middle horizontal segment does not light, the digit 0 is displayed. Lighting appropriate segments can display any digit form 0 to 9. The seven-segment display fits a standard 14-pin IC socket with double in-line pins. This type is a DIP package. The multidigit seven-segment display is often used to show the time on digital clocks.

Potentiometer – The potentiometer is the most common electrical transducer. Potentiometers can be used alone, or they can be attached to a mechanical sensor to convert a mechanical motion into an electrical variation. It consists of a resistive element and a movable contact that can be positioned anywhere along the length of the element. This movable contact is called by various names, including tap, wiper, and slider.

Popular music is an important part of our modern society. It affects, to some extent, how we feel and especially how we think. Lyrics are often secondary in listening importance to music itself, and we may or may not notice the social implications contained in them. Society tends to pay more attention to music because of its beat and not always what the song is saying. Obviously, I know a high-quality song should have a good rhythm or beat in order to attract people to listen to it, but it's not necessarily the most important aspect of music. The purpose of music should be informative, thought provoking, and have a meaningful message to get across to people, whether it's a serious, romantic, or comical approach.

The Dixie Chicks sing a song about domestic violence on their album Fly. In their song, Goodbye Earl, Wanda and Mary Anne, two best friends from high school, are reunited when Mary Anne is informed that Wanda was severely beaten by her husband Earl and is now in intensive care, in the hospital. The two women then plot revenge they worked out a plan, and it didnt take them long to decide, That Earl had to die. From the lyrics, we assume that they fed him a poisoned dinner, Those black eyed peas, they tasted alright to me, Earl, You feelin weak? Why dont you lay down and sleep, Earl, Aint it dark, wrapped up in that tarp, Earl? Later, they probably disposed of his body in the lake Lets go out to the lake Earl, Well pack a lunch, and stuff you in the trunk, Earl. The two women live happily ever after because no one seems to notice that Earl is missing and they spend their time sell[ing] Tennessee ham and strawberry jam. Because Earl had to die, they dont lose any sleep at night. Once Earl is gone, Wanda begins enjoying life once again.

So the song fits within an interesting tradition of country music about violence and broken hearts; for example, one spouse comes home and finds the other one sleeping around and they often go ballistic. People often die, but in this song, a man dies because he abuses his wife. I know there's been controversy on radio stations across the country, about whether to play the song at all because it promotes violence, even though the message of the song was not intended to promote violent acts. This song was purposely written to shine a light on the very serious subject about domestic violence and to show women that there is a way out of an abusive relationship.

The idea of Goodbye Earl is very similar to the song Date Rape off the album, 40 oz. of Freedom by Sublime. This band takes a punk and ska approach in singing about another serious topic; the good-looking stranger who walks into the bar captivates the lonely girl sitting by herself, Light skin, light blue eyes, A double chin and a plastic smile. From these lyrics, we know that the girl notices the good-looking stranger who comes up to sit next to her. 'My brand new car is parked right outside, How'd ya like to go for a ride? And she said, Wait a minute, I have to think He said, That's fine. May I please buy you a drink? One drink turned into or 4…' describes how the man tries to use his charm and then tries to feed off her loneliness to get the girl to leave with him. If it wasn't for date rape I'd never get laid, is an example of the moronic excuse used to justify his actions. The next day she went to her drawer, Looked up her local attorney at law, Went to the phone and filed a police report, And then she took the guy's ass to court…..And he gave him 5 years. This is where the retribution comes in, just like in Goodbye Earl, and is also an example of why the song is so comical, because in reality, the average sentenced for date rape is ½ years.

Both songs appeal very much to me because of the message the songs talk about as well as the beat they possess. The lyrics range from social commentary to social farce, providing entertainment and brain food at the same time. They are both great songs to listen to when you feel like dancing or when you just want to forget the seriousness that sometimes drowns life; however, they also have some retribution for those abused, whether they are women or men. The songs don't exactly have a moral depth per-say (I dont condone murdering for revenge or even date rape), but its all in good fun. Sometimes things need to be looked at for what they are, not their deeper so-called true meaning.

The song Goodbye Earl hits close to home, I too was in an abusive relationship, 4 years ago my boyfriend beat me and I almost ended up in the hospital, but then finally had the courage to get out. I admire that the band would take such a risk in singing so comical about such serious and sensitive topics. Music should inform people about topics we don't want to talk about, as well as touch their lives with the messages they convey, and this band uses their unique upbeat rhythm to draw in their audience to do just that. The bands efforts are not only risk-taking but meaningful to so many women and men who have experienced such violating acts. It's reassuring to know that singers and songwriters are willing to speak out about such hush-hush topics.

In 16, the Salem Village of Massachusetts fell victim to an outbreak of mass hysteria caused by a fear of witchcraft. This fear of witchcraft was caused by a small group of girls who accused innocent people of the village of being under the influence of the devil and harming them with spells of witchcraft. How would a town so concerned with religion react to such crazy accusations? Arthur Miller describes such reactions to these in The Crucible. In this story Miller describes how different people having different perspectives on the events handle this type of hysteria. Some people join the afflicted girls and participate in the hysteria out of fear for their lives. Others grow suspicious and try to find an explanation on how honest these girls, or victims, are in accusing them otherwise innocent people of witchcraft, if witchcraft is even the cause of the girls' hysteria. Arthur Miller writes the play to demonstrate that human nature is actually good regardless of how easily humans can be influenced by the spread of evil. Miller illustrates how pressure created by fear, intolerance, and frustration can cause people to accept their personal responsibilities.

Although fear often drives people away from their responsibilities in the story, it is shown that a person's fear can push him to realize and accept his purposes and responsibilities. John Proctor, a main protagonist in the story, realizes how dangerous the

witchcraft accusations are when the court officials arrest his wife, Elizabeth, for witchcraft and attempted murder '…The little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law!…I'll not give my wife to vengeance!''' (Miller 77). John Proctor is fearful for his wife. Before his wife was arrested, John was really unaware of the extent of danger behind the accusations of witchcraft in the village. At first, he feels suspicious about the hysterical girls' behavior, but the fact that the trials did not directly affect his family makes him handle the events less seriously. Elizabeth's arrest was a wake up call for John because now he is alert and aware that the witchcraft accusations must be stopped because innocent people are being put to death. As he reacts to his wife's arrest, he makes a very important decision. It is up to him to protest against the ongoing trials because no one else will. He then discovers that Mary Warren, the family's servant knows much about the trials because of her role as a officer of the court. 'You're coming with me, Mary, you will tell it in the court…We will slide together into our pit; you will tell the court what you know.''' (80). John discovers that Mary knows that he witchcraft accusations are false. He thin comes to this decision that it is his responsibility, as well as Mary Warren's, to tell the court that the hysteria in Salem is based on lies and false accusations. It is because of a fear for Elizabeth's life that John realizes his individual responsibility to save his wife, as well as to protect other innocent people from being accused and sentenced to death.

The story shows that frustration can not only cause a person to deny responsibility for an action, but also that it can cause a person to realize his errors and take responsibility to redeem himself as a good person, as Reverend John Hale demonstrates

in the play. Reverend Hale first enters the play as a person who is called upon the village of Salem to find a cure for the illnesses caused by the witchcraft. He looks at his calling as a beloved errand for him; on being called here to ascertain witchcraft he felt the pride of the specialist whose unique knowledge has at least seen publicly called for (). He takes his calling as a compliment, thinking that the people of Salem look up to him as a savior bearing good gifts of knowledge. Hale's reputation and his need for respect thrives on the knowledge based on his reading. Therefore, he comes to believe that the answers to all problems come from reading books. Later on in the play, he questions the honesty behind the girls' accusations because of their peculiar behavior and the unfairness of the court officials toward the accused. Hale could not find a cure in his books to prevent witchcraft and soon came to realize that the witchcraft involved in the trials are fake. After struggling with the court officials to understand his views on his trials, he becomes very frustrated and quits the court. He later comes to realize his errors in finding his personal responsibilities and tries to prevent everyone else from doing the same thing 'Let you not mistake your duty as I mistook my own…beware…cleave to no faith when faith bring blood' (1). He finds that his books and his knowledge based on them have misled him, thinking that they held solutions to the problems in Salem. He now looks into his own heart for the solutions to the cause of the trials, and he does what he can to save the accused from falling victim to the injustices of the court. His frustration in trying to reason with court officials about the trials opens Hale's eyes and make him realizes that it his duty to stop the courts from killing innocent people.

Animal Cloning

Each day thousands of lives are threatened and sometimes lost from food-borne illnesses, or waiting for organ donations. It is reported by the Center for Disease Control that each year there are approximately 76 million cases of people infected with food-borne illnesses. (Food-borne Illnesses, 1) Another source, The Gift of Life Foundation, indicates that over eighty thousand patients are currently on waiting lists for transplants. (Organ Donor Awareness, 1) Which makes me wonder why anyone would protest or question animal cloning as a viable solutions to these problems.

First of all, of the thousands of men, women and children on waiting lists, only twenty two thousand people received organ donations. From the remaining fifty eight thousand, six thousand died and the rest are still waiting for a life saving organ. (Organ Donor Awareness, 1) The solution for organ shortages lies in the continuation of research of using animal organs in human transplant patients. One goal of the Human Genome Project researchers is to reproduce organs suitable and compatible for humans. This occurs by genetically altering organs created from single cells and adding human proteins. (Cloning Fact Sheet, ) Without this research, we will never know how many lives could have been saved.

Secondly, another benefit of animal cloning would be improving the quality of the food we eat. As I stated earlier, many people have suffered from food-borne illnesses, some leading to death. The cause of these illnesses are bacteria's found in many meats. The bacteria's result from improper slaughtering, handling of meats, and undercooked meat. Many of the illnesses are left untreated, because people pass the symptoms off as the flu or minor indigestion. One bacterium in particular, Campylobacter, often found in chicken, can lead to a severe neurological disease called Guillain Barre Syndrome. (Food-borne Illnesses, ) With animal cloning, animals will be raised and processed in a well-controlled and more sanitary environment. Although the United States Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service conducts testing of meat processing plants, the rising number of recalls of contaminated meat reveal that their techniques are lacking. This leaves little confidence that we are buying and consuming a clean product.

Some people may say that animal cloning is wrong. As a result, many people are protesting the use of cloning for many reasons. Because of the untested waters that still remain, many people are fearful of what the outcome will produce. Therefore, they want to prevent the research for continuing. Over the past couple years I have read newspaper articles and had conversations with several people about cloning. Some of the reasons for protest are beliefs that it is not humane to create and kill animals for any purpose. For this I argue that we have been creating, killing and using animals for centuries to benefit humans. They have clothed us and fed us; provided us with transportation and have even been used for our entertainment in sports such as the Polo. Religious individuals argue that cloning is tampering with God's creations. However, it was the same God that gave man the will to survive and the intelligence to find new avenues to achieve this. Others claim that it will lead to human cloning. Although I agree that human cloning is going too far, that comes down to a regulatory issue on what can be cloned, and should not prevent all types of cloning.

Personally I love animals. I have owned pets my entire life, and they have all come as a result of some type of rescue. However, I feel that if it comes down to saving humans, it is human instinct to do what we can to improve the quality of human life. If I were approached with the choice of creating an animal to produce a lifesaving organ or letting the individual die, I would create the animal. I feel the same about the food I consume. In the past, I have worked in a pig processing plant, and I know first hand that the environment is not clean enough, and not all abscesses in the meat are discarded. I have always believed there had to be a better way. I also believe that a lot of the health problems with humans are partially caused by the poor quality of food consumed each day.

As quoted by Peter Marshall, Let us not be content to wait and see what will happen, but give us the determination to make the right things happen. If the research is stopped we will never know what could have been. There is no magic crystal ball that can show us the result. To complete the research is a great leap of faith, yet I think if it's succesful it will provide great benefits. To turn our back on the possibility to maintain and improve life would go against our nature.

Little, if any attention was given to political advertising until 15, when Eisenhower effectively competed for the U.S. presidency. Advertising executives, rather than politicians lead Eisenhower's presidential campaign. Since 15, marketing on television has played a more important and even unimportant role in political campaigns. My views somewhat conflict with those represented in the video and textbook, along with my views the textbook and video contradicted themselves on media's portrayal of politicians.

I felt the video contradicted itself because Roser Reeves used two completely different ways of describing what he was doing with political advertising. He called what he was doing as, Partipulation, participation in your own manipulation. However, he also said, Commercials do not educate the public, it is not their purpose, but instead to tell the candidate's position. I believe Reeves is trying to say that the public is so uneducated when it comes to politics that they will stick with whatever idea is presented more often with the simplest terms. However, telling the candidate's position is not exactly, in any form, manipulative. If advertising were simply just telling the candidate's position, then we would not have tons of commercials that slander opposite political competitors. I doubt, however, that advertising is manipulating the public; I do however suppose that advertisers manipulate the facts.

Most of the evidence portrayed in The 0-second President was new and very surprising; still some of it was formerly and previously accepted. I was shocked to hear that, Unpopular commercials do not equal bad sales. I recognize the fact that I purchase things based upon how I perceive them in commercials. If I do not like a commercial, I will not buy the product because I feel that by buying the product, I then endorse the commercial and therefore I will once again see the commercial. I did not find it interesting that even in the 160's, a politician standing on the busiest street corner, shaking hands with everyone that passed for ten seconds that it would not compare to the amount of people television reaches. Nine out of ten people have televisions. The textbook is correct in saying television is the First true mass communication medium.

The textbook and video conflict each other on a few points but for the most part agree that televisions is a great way to reach an audience. In the textbook, UP CLOSE How to Run for Office, they state, Be prepared to define you opponent in negative terms. Negative advertising works. Emphasize his/her positions that clearly deviate from your districts voters' known preferences. However, the video said that negative commercials are no good. Stevenson tried to use negative ads against then president, Dwight D. Eisenhower. People resented the mean commercials against their president, and Eisenhower ended up winning with 58% of the popular vote. I believe that the textbook is just saying what we want to hear. The textbook does not really publish that guide for politicians, and they are just showing what uneducated American's think politicians do. I believe the video is correct in their observation that negative commercials do not work. While disagreements did occur between the book and video they both agreed that television was a great way to induce emotions. The power of television derives not only from its large audiences but also its ability to communicate emotions, the video agrees. The video concluded that they could use sayings stored in the public's mind and it would evoke them. For instance, the use of the little girl not being able to count, and then zooming into her eye and seeing an atomic weapon explode, without even saying a name reminded the public about their fear and needed prevention of atomic warfare. I also found it interesting that the book and video both agreed that it was not the purpose of commercials to educate the public, however they did not agree on what its true intentions are. The textbook said, Television does not tell people what to think but rather what to think about. Whereas the video said, TV commercials do not tell people what to think, rather what the politicians think. I believe both inferences are correct when it comes to this issue. I do however believe they are not telling the whole truth, they should admit that political commercials are aimed at manipulating the fact to make one politician look better than the other.

I always thought mass media was not that important. I am current with public, political speeches, and I prefer to do my own research on politicians or parties and their ideas and concerns. I did not realize that over two-thirds of people say then receive all or most of political news from media sources. In addition, the majority of people consider television as the most believable way of communicating news. The American public must realize that politicians depend on them being uneducated and only judging a candidate on their 0-second commercial. Not until the public educates themselves, will there be any major changes in our politicians.

Communication Process Paper

The importance in being able to effectively communicate with others is essential in the world that we live in. Although everyone participates in some process of communication, not everyone knows how to communicate well. Communication is a process involving the encoding and decoding of messages being sent and received by a source and receiver, respectively. Messages are sent through various channels, such as face-to-face interaction, electronic mail, or telephone. Depending upon the channel used to communicate a message, it may allow for the communication to be transactional or unilateral. All of this occurs within a certain context, and it may also include noise factors, such as cultural differences or physical distractions, that may disrupt the effectiveness of the message being communicated. The more knowledgeable one is of the multiple factors involved in the communication process, the better the chances of effective and efficient communication.

In Organizational Behavior, John Schermerhorn et al believes that it is useful to think of communication as a process of sending and receiving messages with attached meanings (10). At (My job), where I work, vast amounts of messages are sent and received daily, and depending on its availability, certain channels will be utilized. Due to the high volume of different messages, there is always the chance that some messages will be successful while others are not.

An example of an unsuccessful message, where the source of the message was unable to effectively communicate the tasks that were to be completed, involved a voicemail that (My boss), my boss, had left for her assistants. In this certain situation, (My boss) had called and left a message listing about 0 tasks that needed to be completed and she did so by leaving a message on the voicemail. We, my co-workers and I, were required to transcribe her encoded directions before performing the tasks. However, some of the directions were unclear and we were unable to decode them. There were times when the reception on the phone she called from was filled with static, preventing us to clearly decode her message. There were also times when she asked us to fax out information regarding a property listing, yet she did not specify which details were to be included and which details were to be excluded.

Since (my boss) message was through the voicemail, we were unable to ask for clarification or give her feedback. We tried calling her on her cell phone, but it was off. Nevertheless, we proceeded to perform the tasks only to find out later that some were not done to her liking. Some of her intended messages were perceived incorrectly by us. In one instance when she asked us to fax out some information to a client, we misinterpreted the name Thompson with Johnson. Thus, Thompson did not receive the time sensitive information he needed and instead we incorrectly faxed out unnecessary information to Johnson. To this misunderstanding, we lost a one million dollar contact.

In another instance, we were to prepare disclosure packages. However, it was not clear what (My boss) wanted us to include in it. Unable to ask her to specify which documents, we just included everything regarding the property. When (my boss) checked it the following day, she informed us that it was done incorrectly because we included more than was needed. Thus, we had to go back and remove the extra documents, which was ineffective time spent and lost.

On the other hand, an example of a successful communication process at work was when my boss was present at the office and delegated work to us verbally. (My boss) announced to all of the employees that she needed us to work together to help her with advertising. She effectively and efficiently communicated what she wanted in the ad. Schermerhorn et al states that effective communication occurs when the intended meaning of the source and the perceived meaning of the receiver are virtually the same whereas efficient communication is low cost in its use of resources (1). Having (my boss) present made such a difference. She effectively communicated to us that work needed to be done by telling us step by step instructions of what needed to be done. Also, we were able to ask her any questions if we were not clear about the issue. Furthermore, by having all of the employees present and her explaining the tasks to us as a group, she efficiently communicated to us what needed to be completed.

Messages are constantly being sent back and forth within every organization. Thus, effective communication is an essential part of every organization. Undoubtedly, there will always be some sort of miscommunication that may occur. Squirrels are one of the most easily recognizable animals and widely distributed animals in North America. They are popular for their liveliness and natural curiosity. It is hard to imagine that squirrels were running around North America between 54 and 7 million years ago. Squirrels are characterized by any of a group of small to medium-sized gnawing mammals with a long cylindrical body, a furry tail, and powerful jaws. The word squirrel comes from the Greek, and means shadow tail.

Squirrels have many similarities between species and just as many differences. Similarities include the sharp incisor teeth and powerful jaw muscles. They are well suited for gnawing through hard-shelled nuts and thick pine cones. Their sharp claws and flexible bodies help them grasp branches and leap from tree to tree. Their tails act as a balancer when leaping and climbing. It also serves as a blanket and as a signaling device when waved vigorously from a high perch.

Some of the squirrels differences between species will be evident when broken down into categories of squirrels in North America. Member of the squirrel family in North America can be divided into three groups; ground squirrels, tree squirrels, and flying squirrels.

Ground squirrels are compact, short-tailed, burrowing rodents that are especially abundant in open country, such as grasslands and tundra. Ground squirrel include chipmunks, thirteen-lined ground squirrels and prairie dogs. Chipmunks, which range from length from ½ to 6 ½ inches are ground-dwelling squirrels. Chipmunks that are the smallest are also among the most active. They spend most of their lives at or below the surface, although they will also climb trees. Their extensive burrows are up to 1 feet long and may include many rooms and several concealed entrances. The pantry hold up to a half a bushel of nuts and other food, all carried there in the chipmunks outsized cheek pouches. Eastern chipmunks partially hibernate in winter. They wake frequently and feed. Females give birth to between two to eight young. Like all other members of the squirrel family, chipmunks are naked, blind, and helpless at birth.

The thirteen-lined ground squirrel is also know as the federation squirrel because of his unusual markings. He has many stripes on his sides and back. Some are broken into small dots. It gives the illusion of stars and stripes. They are active throughout the day and they retreat to their burrows at night and on overcast days.

Prairie dogs are much larger than the other ground squirrels. They are not a dog at all. They are a stocky rodent that takes its names from its bark. The bark is used as an alarm that signals all others return to their burrows. A prairie dog burrow is an elaborate network of tunnels at the base of shaft. It can be more than a dozen feet below the surface. They are a very social animal and known for their colonies. What is so amazing about this is that the colonies can cover many square miles and contain millions of inhabitants. Members of this social animal, groom each other, and communicate through a variety of gestures and sounds.

The more common squirrels in this area are tree squirrels. They include the eastern gray, and the red squirrel. These squirrels are all larger than the chipmunks. The gray squirrel which is the most prevalent in Florida, have nests high in the branches of trees. Their litters are smaller than the chipmunk, with an average of three babies. Males play no role in raising the young. Gray squirrels do not hibernate, and stay active year round. They rely on buried food and stolen birdseed for winter sustenance.

A smaller tree squirrel, the red squirrel is known for its harsh call when announcing an intruder. These noisy rodents spend much of their time cutting cones from pines, spruces, and other trees. The seeds in the cones will serve a food during the next winter. Red squirrel are able to eat certain mushrooms that are deadly to man. Their diversified diet include buds, sap, and even bird eggs and nestlings. These squirrels, in turn are an important food source for birds of prey.

The only nocturnal squirrel in North America is the flying squirrel. These tree-climbers have folds of skin between their front and back legs which enable them to glide long distances. They do not fly at all, but can glide 0 to 0 feet. To become airborne, this mammal leaps and spreads its legs; to control the glide, it moves its legs and uses its tail as a rudder. Being nocturnal, these tiny squirrels are seldom seen.

Many species of squirrels may become used to people and seem quite tame. A few species of squirrels may damage food crops, trees, and pastures, or invade houses or storage areas. Some occasionally carry plague and other diseases that can spread to human beings. Most people, however, enjoy watching squirrels and their antics. They enjoy squirrels as neighbors and want to protect them. Nevertheless, the major threat to the squirrel species worldwide is the destruction of their forest and grassland homes by human beings.

The opening passage of the 'Lord of the Flies', by William Golding, gives the reader an

idea of the events to come in the rest of the novel. With the use of foreshadowing, which

is used throughout the novel, Golding gives clues that become clearer once the reader

finishes the novel. The descriptions of the boys also set up their characters and

personalities that become known as the novel develops.

The novel is about a group of boys who become stranded on an island without any adults

and therefore without any sense of order or discipline. The boys are excited about this and

begin their adventure with rules and organisation but as the novel progresses they soon

forget about the importance of the rules. The island is no longer a paradise and they

Golding is illustrating that

Ralph is introduced at the beginning and becomes a main character. He is described as

'The boy with fair hair'. The word 'fair' shows that Ralph is a kind, honest person, which

is revealed throughout. Ralph is popular straight away with the other boys. He shows

leadership as 'every hand' went up to elect him. When the boys agree to three people

exploring the island Ralph takes 'Jack and, and… Simon' with him for a reason. He takes

Simon to make him feel better after he fainted when they all met. He asks Jack along to

compensate for not being leader. He also gives Jack leadership over the choir for the

same reason. Giving Jack this power though leads to trouble as Jack has different ideas.

He wants to have fun rather than find away to get off the island, which is Ralph's priority.

A main theme of the novel is the boys' decent into savagery. The boys gradually loose all

sense of civilisation. The 'school sweater' reminds us that this boy is from a civilised

world where there is discipline and order. Ralph had 'taken off his school sweater' and

later the other boys remove their clothes showing that they are already starting to abandon

civilisation. When Jack forms his tribe they live like savages. They have 'painted faces'

and hunt violently for meat.

The boys have forgotten about the outside world and are no longer worried about getting

off the island. Jack soon believes that hunting is more important than the fire, which is

their only way of being rescued. There is an incident when the hunters let the fire go out

in order to go hunting and a ship comes along. Ralph is devastated but Jack doesn't seem

to understand. This is the beginning of the relationship between Ralph and Jack

deteriorating.

Piggy is the next character to be introduced. He is described as 'shorter', 'very fat' while

wearing 'thick spectacles'. He is a complete contrast to Ralph who is an attractive boy

who could 'make a boxer'. Later while Ralph is running around and swimming, Piggy is

watching and complaining about his 'asthma'. There are clear differences between them,

as they don't appear to get on at first. When Piggy asks Ralph his name, Ralph doesn't

pay him the same interest. By the end of the novel though, they stick together once the

tribes have split and when Piggy is murdered Ralph realises he has lost a good friend;

'Ralph wept for…his wise friend called Piggy.' The fact that Piggy is described not by his

name but by his size is significant throughout the novel. He is different straight away and

unlike Ralph he doesn't fit in with the other boys. Jack and the others often laugh at him

and pick on him. He is later known as 'fatty' and then 'piggy' but his actual name is never

known.

At first impressions the island appears to be a paradise but there are certain things that

suggest the island has a darker atmosphere. The 'scar' is the first negative image that

appears. 'A bird' appears that is described as 'a vision of red and yellow' but has a

'witch-like cry'. It looks pretty but it has a harsh sound so what appears to be positive on

the outside isn't.

Initially the island appears to be a paradise. There are many positive adjectives to suggest

this such as 'dazzling', 'tropical' and 'glittering'.

As soon as the novel begins there are signs that 'man' has already damaged the island. It

appears to be a paradise and yet the crash caused the 'long scar'. This is the start of the

destruction of the island that is to come. The scar is 'all round him'. The alliteration 'scar

smashed' emphasises the harsh image. As the novel progresses the boys abuse the island.

An example of this is when the boys set the island on fire.

In Shakespeares Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is made to act as the main cause in Macbeths evil doings. Even though Macbeth is generally the one to have the final say in the many killings that take place in the play, Lady Macbeth plays the role of a villain alongside him. She mocks him throughout the play to do something she has instructed him to do, saying he would be less of a man if he does not follow through on their plan (I. vii. 56-57). She gives Macbeth a short lecture in deceptiveness when they are planning to kill King Duncan (I. vi. 7-78). She also prepared the daggers for Macbeth to kill Duncan in advance (II. ii. 15-16). Though he was still having doubts, she was in a way, ready to go in for the kill.

Lady Macbeth shows the fear of getting caught when she unintentionally gives herself away in her sleep (V. i. , 7-4, 44-47, 5-55, 65-67, 6-7). Though her fear can suppress itself during a conscious state of being, she can do nothing about it when she is asleep.

Throughout the play and leading up to her suicide, Lady Macbeth slowly weakens. However, in the beginning of the play, she acts as if she is ruthless and unstoppable. When Macbeth has his doubts and fears about murdering the Duncan, Lady Macbeth chastises him, calling him everything from a coward to a helpless baby (I. vii. -4, 5-67). She even offers to do it herself, possibly to make Macbeth feel that hes even more cowardly because a woman is offering to do his job. This pushes Macbeth to kill Duncan, and later deaths in the play. Macbeth tries to convince Lady Macbeth, as well as himself, that she is wrong by I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none. (I. vii. 50-5) He indeed goes through with the murder anyway.

Not only does Lady Macbeth push her husband to do things he does not want to, but she also informs him that his face is too easy to read. Of course, she does not want her husband or herself to get caught, so she gives him advice. When she tells him to look like th innocent flower, But be the serpent under t (I. vi. 76-78), not only is she doing this so that Macbeth will not give himself away, but so that he will not give her away in the meantime. Even before that early point in the play, Lady Macbeth has already demonstrated that she is two-faced. When Duncan first arrives at the castle, Lady Macbeth acts as a welcome hostess, when in reality she has different plans for Duncan than she lets on. Lady Macbeth manages to manipulate her Macbeth so that she may get what she wants. This being a dead King Duncan in her house basically. Indeed, Lady Macbeth does get what she wants, and ultimately what she deserves, as the play progresses. Usually, though she has to push Macbeth a little before he takes action, Macbeth is pretty much obedient. Lady Macbeth seems to realize that her husband probably will not go through with the murder of Duncan until she pushes him to the point of insanity, so she prepares everything in advance. All Macbeth has to do for his part in the murder, is actually kill Duncan; Lady Macbeth sets out the daggers and gives the guards enough alcohol so that they pass out. She was so eager to have Duncan dead that she almost killed him herself. Had he not resembled/ My father as he slept, I had done t (II. ii. 16-17). Yet she still had her husband commit the crime, whether it was because she was actually scared to do so, or because she wanted him to feel empowered. Either way, Lady Macbeth was definitely ready for Duncan to die.

Despite her excitement earlier in the play, Lady Macbeth seemed a bit afraid that she might get caught later in the play. When she sleepwalks and talks in her sleep, she demonstrates a fear that clearly represents the fact that she is scared of being caught. She talks of going to bed and washing her hands with the famous Out, damned spot, out, I say! (V. i. 7) phrase. When she yells about ridding herself of Duncans blood, she is presenting a metaphor she does not truly want to be rid of Duncans blood itself, but rather the fear and guilt that his murder has forced upon her. The constant nightmares she has and the fear and guilt she must live with will eventually become too much to handle. She commits suicide, proving that she is a villain because she cannot deal with the consequences of her actions. William Hazlitt, (Characters of Shakespeares Plays, 1817) states that She is a great bad woman, whom we hate, but whom we fear more than we hate.... She is only wicked to gain a great end. Samual Taylor Coleridge, (Coleridges Shakespearean Criticism; edited by Thomas M. Raysor, 15) states that she shames her husband with a superhuman audacity of fancy which she cannot support, but sinks in the season of remorse, and dies in suicidal agony.

As a result of her and Macbeth's actions, Lady Macbeth meets her death at the end of the play. However, most of what happened was because of Lady Macbeth. If she didn't push Macbeth so hard to do something that he did not originally want to do, then Duncan would have lived and Lady Macbeth would not have gone through such anguish. She was too eager to kill. She seemed to be only interested in her own personal gain and possibly her husbands gain. Lady Macbeth was indeed the villain in Macbeth who intended on winning, but in the end, ultimately lost.

In Mordecai Richlers novel The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, the protagonist Duddy Kravitz, dreamed of becoming successful; but he chooses to lie, cheat, and manipulate certain individuals to get to the point of success that he wants.

A man must pursue his dreams. This is certainly true for everyone, for if there were no dreams, there would be no reason to live. Duddy Kravitz understands this perfectly, that is why he is ambitious. From the moment he hears his grandfather says, A man without land is nobody,(48) he is prepared to seek the land of his dream, no matter what the cost would be. This ambition of his is very respectable, but unfortunately his methods are hateful.

During his study in the parochial school, he already earns money by taking advantage of the fact that minors cannot be sued in Canada; Duddy defrauds stamp companies and sells stolen hockey sticks.

The moment that Duddy began the creation of his film company, it could be seen that he was willing to do anything to get money, even if he had to lie. For example, the film Duddy made for the bar mitzvah was of very poor quality, and as a result, the product was an obvious failure. Duddy himself knew that well, Duddy didn't say a word all though the screening but afterwards he was sick to his stomach. (148). Later, Duddy said to Mr. Friar I could sell Mr. Cohn a dead horse easier then this pile of _ (148). After this incident, Duddy does not even speak honestly to Mr. Friar and Mr Cohen anymore. The only way Duddy sells his waste films is by telling lies. He always lies to gain money; and gaining money is all that Duddy cares about.

Duddy has never been loved by his family, so he was quite happy to know that Yvette cared about him. At the beginning, when Yvette and Duddy first fell in love she told him. It's so nice to see you lie still for once, she said. Your always running or jumping or scratching.() Duddy was surprised and flattered to discover that anyone cared enough to watch him so closely.

Duddy manipulates Yvette to get land, The farmers would be wary of a young Jew, they might jack up prices or even refuse to see, but another French Canadian would not be suspect. (100) Duddy was to young to marry, not even to a rich woman if he could get one; but if Yvette helped him he would always look after her, and she would get a share in the profit. Basically, Duddy was manipulating Yvette so that she would sign the papers. Will you just sign, please? and Yvette signed. Well, said Duddy cheers. But Yvette didnt lift her glass. (0) Duddy used Yvette to sign, because Duddy could not legally own the land as a minor, erego his reasons for employing Yvette to act as a figurehead in his purchase. Duddy had used Yvette as a tool so that he could get land. As it was, Yvette had fought with her family because of Duddy being a Jew. As Yvette says, My brother found out I'm living with you…I won't be able to see my parents again. (18) Yvette has been used badly by Duddy, she thinks that Duddy actually loves her but he doesnt.

Virgil is another type of victim that Duddy takes full advantage of due to his physical disabilities, Virgil, I owe you a thousand bucks. Right? Right? What would you say if for that thousand bucks I could put my hands on just the truck for you? (15) Virgil is innocent enough not to know what is happening. He is also very grateful and flattered to know that Duddy is willing to hire him. He accepts the job immediately. Its important to note that Duddy knows the pinball machines cost more than the truck. As it is Duddy clearly takes full advantage of Virgil by stealing money out of his bank account for land. Duddy took a quick look at Virgil's bank balance, whistled, noted his account number and ripped out two cheques. He forged the signature by holding the cheque and a letter Virgil had signed up to the window and tracing slowly. (07,08) This is a clear indication that Duddy has chosen his path in life and has become an inconsiderate person.

Duddy loses the respect and trust of his close friends and family to achieve the landhe desires. Hes lost the approval of his friends when he becomes so self-indulged that he forgets all about Yvette and Virgil. They lose all all trust in him when he purchases the last bit of land, by stealing the money from Virgil, and then refusing the help of anyone else. The worst part about his losses is that he is warned on many different occasions; for example, Youre too sure of yourself. (10) and I knew youd get your fingers burnt one day (51). He was warned to take it slow but chose to ignore the advice of others. All the effort Duddy put towards his life was so that he could make his grandfather proud, but instead he ends up hurting his grandfather and loses any respect his grandfather may of had for Duddy.

Duddy uses other tragic events and the disabilities of others as nothing more than another suitable way to advance to his own goals. Duddy has chosen the wrong kind of man to become, which leads him to become a true failure. To become successful you have to accomplish your favorable outcome by being a person of high moral standing, and one who maintains the respect of his peers.

Please note that this sample paper on the failure of duddy kravitz is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on the failure of duddy kravitz, we are here to assist you. William Shakespeare, who was recognized as one of literature?s greatest influences, was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, 1564. His baptism was held on April rd, but there were no records on the date of his birth, therefore his birthday was pretended to be on April rd, 1564. William Shakespeare was the third of eight children to be born of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. William had composed 154 sonnets and written 7 plays through which he added about 1,500 words to the English language, some of which are still used by modern humans nowadays. For instance; cold-blooded, employer, to gossip, to misquote, and worthless.

In 15 Shakespeare paid the acting company a particular amount of money which made 1.5 percent of the cost of building the Globe Theater. The Globe Theatre, in the Southwark district of London, was the venue at which the best known stage works were first produced. History says that Shakespeare made elaborate plans of where should he place the music in his plays. Shakespeare believed that the music would attract audiences? senses and fall into their imaginations. Music added more life into the plays. It helped in the dramatic purpose in the production. For instance, an example from an internet source, the script for Macbeth calls for many musical attributes singing, dancing, drums, trumpet fanfares, woodwinds, and bell chiming. The music gallery was placed on the third level specifically over the upper curtain stage in the Globe Theater. Shakespeare?s music could be ?divided into 4 main categories? stage music, magic music, character music, and atmospheric music.

The stage music consists of music cued by occasional announcements or actions on the stage. Some examples would be trumpets playing loudly at a battle or background music at a banquet.

Magic music comes together with the feelings of love, dreaming, or phenomenal events. For instance, in a Midsummer?s Night Dream, the fairies sing a beautiful soothing lullaby for the character Titania?s to go to sleep.

Character music shows every detail in personality of the character it portrays. This kind of music could make you understand the characteristics that wont be able to be showed on stage. Just like a character Ophelia in the play Hamlet, who?s craziness is unleashed through her voice in songs.

Of all the four types of music, Atmospheric is the most complicated. It describes the emotions of the play; love, anger, hate, jealousy and a violent mood.

These music categories were one of many reasons Shakespeare?s plays were so successful. They explained Shakespeare?s beliefs about music and what a big role it represents in the plays. This kind of music helps the audience with understanding the concept of the play.

During the late middle ages and Renaissance period, the instruments were setting a mood for particular scenes like love, hate etc. These are the instruments that were used In Shakespeare?s plays the viol, the lute, the recorder, the bagpipe, the virginal, the cornet, tabor and fife, and the Hautboy.

The viol is one of the stringed instruments which were very popular during 16th century. It has a particularly the same form as violin but larger, has 6 strings, and the neck furnished with frets for stopping the strings. (http//www.dictionary.com)

The lute is a plucked instrument having a pear-shaped body and a neck with a fretted fingerboard that is usually bent. Usually the lute accompanied a singer of a serenade, and lute players used their own form of musical notation called tablature.

The recorder attainted popularity through its sweet tone, usually portrayed in plays as a nightingale. The recorder belongs to the flute family, the recorder has a mouthpiece similar to a flageolet.

The Bagpipe is a musical wind instrument, now used chiefly in the Highlands of Scotland. It usually referred to in the texts of Shakespeares plays. The bagpipe has flexible bag inflated either by a tube with valves or by bellows, a double-reed melody pipe, and from one to four drone pipes.

The virginals, named after the Virgin Queen Elizabeth, has a rectangular form, like the small piano. The virginal comes from a keyboard family.

The cornet is a wind instrument of the trumpet class, having three valves operated by pistons. It is a type of horn, the cornet had a cup-like mouth piece like the trumpet, with six holes on one side for the fingers, and one hole on the opposite side for the thumb.

Tabor and fife is a small, high-pitched hand drum that is paired up with fife in a performance. It?s similar to a piccolo.

The hautboy is a wind instrument, sounded through a reed. it?s similar in shape to the clarinet, but with a thinner tone.

The works of Shakespeare were expanding during the 1th century. Romantic composers like Berlioz and Tchaikovsky were influenced by Shakespeare?s wonderful works. An english poet who?s intelligent works are considered to be the greatest in English literature. William Shakespeare, this name will never be forgotten.

An interesting development in the management field is the exodus of engineers from their traditional areas of expertise to management. In the industry Techno managers has become the new buzzword. They are not just techno-savy but have the expertise to make complex technical decisions involving products, processes and R&D. In this age of Super industrialization where industry has moved one step further from being 'manufacture oriented' to 'knowledge or technology oriented', managers ought to be technically sound apart from having managerial skills. The major recruiters of these neo techno-savy managers are IT services such as Infosys, Compaq, Wipro Corp, Oracle, followed by Process and Manufacturing sector as HLL and banks as HSBC and ICICI. This shows the latest trend in industry, which demands an integration of multidisciplines, technology and commerce. Even consultancies like 'the firm' McKinesy, KPMG, PwC, Cap Gemini E&Y are recruiting heavily from institutes like NITIE, an institute, which concentrates solely on integrating the duel concepts of engineering and management. KPMG has made maximum offers in the areas of MCS (Management Consultancy Services) & IRM (Information Risk Management) the strongest areas of Techno-managers.

Technology has revolutionized spheres like biotech, software, telecom, security, banking, transportation, entertainment etc. These fields have become technology driven and are innovating at a lightening speed. The theoretical and often practical knowledge, which the engineers have in these fields' help them make sound decisions in the economic and commercial aspects as they understand the finer nuances of the viability of technology better. For example, Vinod Khosla, partner at venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers was the driving force behind Cerent Corp., a telecommunications-equipment start-up. Mr. Khosla, an IIT Delhi cum Stanford product, conceived Cerent in late 16, recruited the first engineers, served as chief executive for 1-1/ years and, as chairman, shepherded Cerent to what is believed to be a record purchase by Cisco Systems Inc. for a $6. billion deal. The other venture he backed, the Internet portal Excite Inc, after they had been turned down by 8 other venture capitalists became a whopping success and recently Home Corp acquired it for $6.7 billion. This ability to foresee the viability of a technical project and its feasibility in the market is what set the Techno-managers apart from the others and makes them a favorite of consultancies.

The engineers are looking for enhancement of organizational, time management, and multitasking capabilities, which would enable them to take up more managerial responsibilities and move up in the corporate ladder faster. Certain engineering colleges like IIT Bombay have set up Entrepenurship Cells (EC) to help the students with their business plans and find venture capitalists. Efforts like these naturally kindle an interest among the students to turn towards management. In fact the exposure to management field for engineers starts quite early, during their graduate studies. Many technical institutes have included a few of the basic management courses in their curriculum such as industrial management, which includes engineering economy, project management and operations research.

Today's Entrepenurship is based on the technological concepts. On examining the winners of ii (ideas to implementation), the business plan competition held by IIM-C we could observe an emerging trend, the advent of technology-oriented concepts. The prize-winning proposal was the infotech business plan for The Drug Company to provide quality bio-infomatic algorithms to small pharmaceutical companies to aid in their quest of New Drug Development. The possibility of finding venture capitalists easily to fund their projects is one of the reasons why engineers are lured to MBA.B-schools provide veneues for the venture capitailsts to identify technologies with commercial potential and fund them. To lead these businesses the industry needs Super Specialists who can integrate multiple disciplines such as biotechnology, software, communication, automobile engineering etc and management

Despite a well paying job many engineers do an MBA for Value-addition. Apart from the course curriculum and the infra structure, the knowledge assimilated by the student while interacting with his peers is considered unparalleled education. Each business proposal and strategy put forward by the student is subjected to close scrutiny and appraisal by the peers. Consequently the techno-savy engineers get a chance to evaluate the commercial potentiality and practicability of their technologies. The leverage which techno-savy managers have is even in a depressed job market and downslided economy can do little to extinguish their spirit. In fact these adverse times usually prove to be a catalyst for them to come up with business proposals. Instead of waiting for a job to be provided to them, they can initiate projects. It is this dexterity that makes them vital.

'THE WESTERN AUSTRALIAN LEGAL INSTITUTION I HAVE STUDIEDPolitical and economic factors were the major reasons the federation of Australia was achieved.

The major political factor for federation was the need to create a strong united commonwealth that could defend its boundaries. The vastness of Australia made it vulnerable and so a strong army was needed to protect it. For example Western Australia has a very large coastline and its small population and economy could not protect the vast state. The defensive worries of the colonies were heightened by the expansionist policies of Germany and France in the Pacific. The colonies realised that a strong army and navy to protect their boundaries could only be achieved and financed through federation.

Economically the colonies saw that there were a lot of gains that could be achieved through the creation of a strong, united and powerful country. United the colonies could speak with one voice and this would give the colonies respect and stronger voice among the world powers. The colonies especially the industrialised eastern states wanted to protect their markets from cheap manufactured goods. The colonies were also worried about internal tariffs which they thought were very disruptive to trade.

The major difficulty that faced the founding fathers was drafting a constitution that would be acceptably to all the colonies so as to prevent any state from secession. The colonies at that time shared very little in terms of politics, economics and geography. This resulted in the colonies having conflicting interests and general mistrust.

The major political hurdle was the type of government that the new commonwealth government was to adopt. The strong and populous eastern estates (Victoria and New South Wales) wanted a strong Federal government but the weaker states distrusted this and feared that a strong federal government would be used the larger states to dominate them resulting in them becoming nothing more than an extension of the Victoria and NSW.

The colonies had reached different stages of development both politically and economically. Victoria and NSW had become industrialised while smaller states like Western Australia were still agriculturally based. This resulted in division over the question of tariffs. The eastern states wanted to abolish internal tariffs but impose high external tariffs to protect their industries from cheap overseas goods. On the other hand smaller states like WA which were agriculturally based were against this because this was going to affect their business. Also internal tariffs were a source of revenue for the smaller governments. Victoria and NSW had been independent for sometime now but WA had just got its independence and was going through a period of prosperity with the discovery of gold and so the people of the state saw no reason in giving away their new found autonomy and prosperity so early.

I don't think those who want to introduce an Australian republic will face the same problems. The major reason is that whereas the founding fathers were working from nothing and with little resources the republican movement has been in motion for sometime and they have many resources at their disposal. Despite the many setbacks and problems such as WA attempt to secede the Australian Federation has been a success. The two world wars, cold war era and now the threat of terrorism have strengthened the resolve to have a strong and united Commonwealth of Australia. Some of the difference that existed at the beginning of the 0th century such as geographical barriers have been reduced or no longer in existence. However this does not mean that the Republican movement will not face any challenges. One of the major challenges will be over the type of leader and government the country is going

Frankenstein

I think Mary Shelley's view on young scientist trying to exert power over nature is obvious. I mean just by reading her book you can see how she feels maybe. I think she would think it wouldn't be a very good idea for a young man or whoever to try to achieve such a goal. I mean God created us. Everything so perfect. Who in their right mine would try to attempt to achieve such a thing? I think its great if a kid wants to study science and study all the scientist before his time. I think it's a positive thing if he tries to invite things noone had ever thought to before. That's how we have things today that people back in the day would never had dreamed of having. Technology has came so far since long days before us now. I think there has to be a line drawn though. Stop it at all the inventions and don't attempt to create a human being. It would probably cause a lot of pain to others like the way it did in the book Mary Shelley wrote, Frankenstein.

In the book Frankenstein, it showed Victor growing up reading all these ancient books. Isolating himself to the whole world. He got so wrapped up in what all he was reading and all the scientific knowledge. He seemed to miss out on the fun things in life. He made it to college, which is great, but he still isolated himself from everyone. He became so smart I think he was stupid in the attempt he was doing. I think deep down Victor thought he was doing the world a favor. Well attempting to build a person was a success. He turned in all his parts that he had gathered into a human being. Well it was a disaster. He had created a monster. It caused a lot of heartbreak. Not only for Victor and to others, but for the creature he created. I mean the creature awoke without anyone to take care of him. He didn't know he was ugly. He walked outside and got the worst looks and everyone chased him away calling him some monster. Victor had ran from him because he was ashamed. So the monster was all by himself. He also did not know how to talk or communicate. He found his own way of learning to talk through the family he ran into while he was searching for some food. But still he was by himself. He knew from his own experiences he wouldn't beable to confront them. So he learned through watching them through a crack next door. He had no food. He learned to eat others things humans would rather not eat. He had all this hatred in him, but could you blame him. He ended up finding Victor's journal in the coat he had put on back at the lab. So he learned where Victor lived and all about what Victor had done. Noone accepted the monster. All he wanted was to fit in and be loved. He figured out that Victor could create another creature such as himself so that he could be happy with the other creation. So he sought after Victor. One day in the woods he heard a kid playing and the kid went crazy over the monster. So the monster choked him trying to make the kid to calm down and ended up killing the kid. He killed the kid but underestimated his powers. He didn't want to cause any harm. All he knew was that if people saw him, he would get beaten or shot at. In away that death was Victor's fault. He should have never created such a thing. And since he did he should have done something about it. Well that's one death. Well that picture that was on the kid, the monster had put on the girl, Justine. So she was convicted on killing the little kid. She was a innocent little girl. Victor knew she was too and still never came forth. He didn't want anyone to know what he had done. Eventually Justine got the penalty and was sentenced to deaths. So there you have two innocent lives thrown away. All because of Victor Frankenstein. He was a scientist trying to exert power over nature. Well the monster finally meets up with Victor and asks him the least he could do is to create another life why the monster could be happy. That's all he wanted was to have someone else just like him to be happy. Victor did not agree with him on building a new life. He knew what he had done and how what he did caused so many horrible things. But it really wasn't the monster's fault. He didn't ask to be like he was. Victor had all of this on his shoulders, but it was his fault. He should have drawn the line, but he got caught up in his work. Well the monster told him he would be sorry if he did not help him. He would hurt someone he loved why Victor could feel some of the pain of the monster. Well on Victor's wedding night ad wasn't even with his wife upstairs, he was downstairs with a rifle waiting on the monster. The monster got up stairs somehow and strangled his wife, Elizabeth and killed her. So there was another innocent life killed do to Victor.

Bottom line I am trying to get across is, nothing good came out of what Victor did in creating the monster. He had plenty of tragedies that came in his life do to the creation he a created. He attempted what God did so perfect in creating life. He should have never gotten so caught up into science where he would think to do a certain thing or think he would beable to do a certain thing. So by the way Mary Shelley wrote this book I wouldn't think she would advise young scientists to exert power over nature. According to the book, the main character had plenty of pitfalls not only to him but to others around him.

Plato's the Meno is most commonly taken as a book about virtue. In my opinion, the Meno's central issue is teaching. The entire book revolves around Socrates answering Meno's questions about virtue. It is a book that teaches us about teaching, rather than actually answering the question that is presented, Can virtue be taught? Or is it not teachable but the result of practice, or is it neither of these, but men possess it by nature or in some other way? Every time Meno presents a question to Socrates, Socrates presents a question back. The question is never answered throughout the text which lets us know that this is not the purpose of the book.

Meno asks Socrates many questions throughout the text but none of those questions are really answered straight from Socrates. Socrates is constantly presenting Meno with a question to ponder. Meno, in turn, is actually learning from himself. He has all the answers within himself and it is up to Socrates to bring them out of him. As a student I would always get agitated when a teacher wouldn't answer my question directly, but rather would give me something to think about. I never understood why they just couldn't answer my questions, after all, they were my teachers. However, after time, I realized that in order for us to actually learn things, we have to bring them out of ourselves. We have to search our mind for a place where we can get a solution. Every time I see a problem, particularly in math, I find myself searching my thoughts for the answer. I know it is in there somewhere, I just have to stop to find it.

Socrates believed that learning is a process of recollecting the past. In a way, I believe this to be true. Questioning a person is the best way to get them to recollect. They keep searching, and searching, until they find a solution. And if they seem to be fed up with it, you question them with something else. In the Meno Socrates admits, For I myself do not know the answer when I perplex others, but I am more perplexed than anyone when I cause perplexity in others. So now I do not know what virtue is; perhaps you knew before contacting me, but now you are certainly like who does not know. Nevertheless, I want to examine and seek together with you what it may be. This is where he states his belief in learning through recollection. Socrates is showing that he himself does not know the answer, but maybe if they can work together he can gain the answer from Meno. He believes that someone has the answer within them, and maybe Meno is that person. Meno then questions, How will you look for it, Socrates, when you do not know at all what it is? How will you aim to search for something you do not know at all? If you should meet with it, how will you know that this is the thing that you did not know? This statement is one that many of us would ask, after all, it makes sense; How can you find something inside of you when you have no clue at all what it is? But it is Socrates belief that they can find it inside of them. In my opinion, having someone to help you go through it can help to expand your mind and ideas. It can help you to think in different ways.

Teachers are so useful in the way that they help you to explore yourself. I'll never forget my high school psychology teacher, Mr. Jim Farino. He would give us a question every night to go home and think about. Each question would count as a quiz grade so that we would have to do it, otherwise our grade would be effected. He graded it so that our answers weren't tested, but our way of thinking was. He wanted to see that we actually thought about the questions he was asking. He would ask simple questions, such as What is your favorite color and why. They were so simple but they got u to realize why you liked or disliked certain things. The questions got you to learn about yourself.

Mrs. Barbara Gardella was my writing teacher for two years. She would have the class do group work at least twice a week. Our assignments would be to read an article, or a work of literature, and write a short paper on them. By working with other people I would always find myself thinking in different ways. Each person would have their own analysis of the reading. I found it easier to see things when other people would help me out. It was like a small group of teachers. Each person in the group would tell the others their opinions on the subject matter. Together, we would work to find a commonly believed meaning of the text. This is much like Socrates' statement, I want to examine and seek together with you what it may be. He wanted to get the job done together; to explore one another's way of thinking.

Teaching is something that is passed down. One person teaches another how to be a teacher. There is a part in the Meno where Socrates presents a math equation to a slave boy. Socrates notes, You see, Meno, that I am not teaching the boy anything, but all I do is question him. Socrates is passing down his way of teaching to Meno. He is proving to him that an answer can be reached without actually telling the person how to do it. It is important for one to show another how to teach so that we continue our process of learning. If noone was taught how to be a teacher, how would we ever know to search within our self?
