Budgetary slack or sometimes it is referring to budgetary bias, is a common process where implementer intentionally underestimates revenue or overestimates expenses in the tight budget. Managers may attempt to create budgetary slack in three ways.

Managers may deliberately underestimate the production or sales budget¡¯s potential. For example, the sales budget for the month of July is RM 1 million. If the manager is able to achieve the target budget then the sales budget for the following month will be increases to RM 1.5 million. Manager creates budgetary slack by undervalue the budget so that the budget for August will be easier to achieve although they are able to hit the tight budget.

Manager may also attempt to achieve slack by cost overestimation. They purposely used more than the budgeted expenditure so that the budget will be increases for the following months. After that they spend less than the budgets to shows that they have improve in their performance. For instance, the cost budget is set to be RM 1 million in January. Then the manager spends RM 1. million in their expenditure so that the cost budget will be increase to RM1. million in February. Subsequently, they spend only RM 1.1 million in March which is RM 0.1 million lesser than February to prove that they have better performance.

Moreover, manager may use up all the budgets to pretend that there is no slack in the recent budget. Manager may waste his extra cost budget on non-essential expenses. Let say the cost budget is RM million for March, the manager will try to finish his allowance although he only spend RM1.8 million. This may cause by the fear of the manager that the future budget will be reduces unless the allowance is fully utilise. If the budget being reduces, then this may make himself into difficulty to maintain or attain the reduced budget. Thus they spend money when it is not necessary to do so.

Managers expect overestimations of difficulties happened too. They attempt this so that the sales budget would be reduced and the cost budget would be increased for the subsequent months. This help in easing their job to reach the reduced budget and they would have higher allowances to spend on. For instance, the manager might only face two difficulties in his task in reality, but he overrate the difficulties to four so that the senior manager understand his situation and do some amendments on the tight budget.

Senior manager in many ways can identify the distortion of the budgetary system.

The senior managers can try to compare the recent sales with other similar departments. For example, if the manager in Accounts Department is able to fully use or spend less in his cost budget, the manager in Finance Department should be able too and not over spend or overestimate.

Besides, senior manager can make a review on pass trends to measure the sensibleness of budget. The comparison of current figures with previous record must consider the market growth and market share. For instance, if formerly the manager was able to reach the tight budget, he is supposing able to achieve the same budget at the same activity levels and working practices.

Senior manager should also consider the environment changes. Changes in government policy may have changes in business environment. Inflation, efficiency level, movement of interest rate as example, may affect sales volume. For instance, as the inflation rate increases, consumer might reduce their consumption, which then affected the quantity of sales.

A proper meeting should be held between managers and senior manager. Senior manager may use their knowledge on the management style of managers to identify the area of slack introduced. During the meeting, senior manager should discuss with budget holders about the sales reduced and how they determined to pick up their performances. This indirectly builds the awareness of those managers that distort the budgetary system.

Senior manager can discover these manipulations by investigating the sales and spending behaviour of managers around the budget period end. The growing of complexity of business, as example will enhance the difficulty implicated in determining the interaction between different elements of business. Therefore it is depend on the behaviour of managers on how they take it.

Senior manager may also attempt issue of transparency where all the departments coordinate and cooperate among themselves. Each and every task of all the departments will be report to one another, so that their jobs are transparence and managers do not have the chance to slack the budget. For instance, if Account Department is doing task A, then the task will be transparent to all the departments.

Zero based budgeting (ZBB) approach may be used where all expenditures must be justified each new period, as opposed to only explaining the amounts requested in excess of the previous periods funding. For example, if an organization used ZBB, each department would have to justify its funding every year. That is, funding would have a base at zero. A department would have to show why its¡¯ funding efficiently helps the organization toward its goals.

A detailed review of the complete draft budget needs to be performed by senior manager to ensure its rationality. Then compare the draft budget with external data, the information published by competitors and information from trade associations as examples. If the draft budget is not complement with the references, then there is a high possibility that managers attempt slack.

Senior manager should do study on the background of managers too. Some managers are likely to introduce slack because they are not well trained regarding the system. For instance, those managers who are fresh graduate and do not have the knowledge on the budgeting system of the organisation may be unable to plan the budget well. The burden of managers should also be review. Sometimes managers are loaded with too many tasks and lead them attempt budgetary slack.

Senior manager may also study the budgetary system that he expected managers to achieve. Sometimes the budget might be too high and hardly to attain in the competitive market. The low actual results might be the best performance from managers. For instance, the senior manager set the budget for RM15 million for the year 00. This high budget may be successful when economy rises but not during the economy crisis. Then the senior manager should improve in planning the system.

In conclusion, the budgetary system is vital for every organisation for strategic planning. Hence, the senior manager should have co-ordinate the managers correctly towards the organisation¡¯s goals.

Throughout history, many wars have been fought all resulting in death and destruction, but two in particular are very important to American literature today. Ernest Hemingway wrote A Farewell to Arms, a fantastic account of World War I, in which he characterizes Lt. Henry, a young ambulance driver in love during the time of fighting, actually portraying himself during the time of war. His role in the war however gave him very little personal interaction with actual combat himself but a way to observe the soldiers’ lives around him. Tim O’Brien, with his position as a solder in the Viet Nam Conflict, wrote The Things They Carried, an accurate and personal account of his experiences and difficulties throughout the time of battle. Through the general surveillance of Hemingway and the individual eyes of O’Brien, both are able to capture the essence of war with differing perspectives, yet both revealing its corruptive nature on a soldier.

Based on his perspective, Hemingway is able to generalize the mental, emotional, and physical effects of both life and death in war rather than focusing on the individual perspective of the events around them. This provides a broader outlook of the demoralization and corruption of the men during their time of fighting. Early in the novel, one man reaches the despairing realization, ’There is nothing as bad as war….When people realize how bad it is they cannot do anything to stop it because they go crazy’ (Hemingway 50). As the men are experiencing the battle, they truly feel war is the worst thing imaginable, but by the time they comprehend the intensity, their minds have dissipated and are no longer rational. The mental state of insanity is evident by their animal-like desire to kill. Shortly after caring for the sick and wounded, Lt. Henry, along with several other men, is captured and interrogated about his supposed involvement as an enemy spy. As a result of the degradation of their mental state, the soldiers, without hesitation shot every one they had questioned (Hemingway 4). The soldiers, as a whole, began to lose track of the purpose of reaching peace and became killing machines, not much more human than the weapons they operated. Eventually, the decaying minds of the soldiers expands to encompass their emotions, resulting in a loss of optimism and desire to stay alive ’It is never hopeless. But sometimes I cannot hope. I try always to hope but sometimes I cannot’ (Hemingway 71). The men’s loss of hope to persevere and carry on leads to a doubting of all aspects of life, even the creator Himself. In the novel, the priest is speaking to Lt. Henry and simply states, ’You understand but you do not love God’ (Hemingway 7). Henry’s reply admits his lack of love for God and reveals that he is afraid of Him in the night sometimes (Hemingway 7). During the time of war and aggression, all the men know is fear and hate, losing the ability to even trust in God. After the horrifying things they have seen, they are unable to rely on anyone to help them in the darkness of the night. Death, a morbid reality of war, severely contributes to the gloom and darkness of the novel, something Hemingway encountered abundantly in his line of work. As Lt. Henry is lying on a stretcher after his injury, a dead man lies above him with drops [of blood falling] very slowly, as they fall from an icicle after the sun has gone (Hemingway 61). As Henry arrives at the hospital, he experiences a darkness of war unlike any other. At a perceived place of health and restoration, soldiers can look out the windows and see the new graves in the garden (Hemingway 75). With a general feeling of gloom and despair, the soldiers, in a delusional state of mind, can only focus on the present with no regard for life after war There is nothing worse than war (Hemingway 50). By using a broader prospective on the life of soldiers, Hemingway is able to objectively capture the mental, emotional, and physical consequences associated with war.

In contrast to Hemingway, O’Brien’s individualistic perspective of the mental, emotional, and physical results of war offers the reader a personal account based on his daily experience with hand-to-hand combat. With his actual role as a soldier, his memories are still fresh in his mind and he writes mainly of individual men and their experiences. With the purpose of killing as many as possible, the men did not look at the faces of the enemy to prevent any kind of relationship, but twenty years later, [they are] left with faceless responsibility and faceless grief (O’Brien 180). The minds of the men began to create new realities to escape from the hell in which they are living, and admit to sometimes [slipping] away into daydreams inspiring a mental state entirely different from the one they possessed at the entrance of war. During the times the soldiers were ordered to crawl into and destroy the complex holes dug by the opposing side, O’Brien remembers …the waiting was worse than the tunnel itself. Imagination was a killer (O’Brien 11). Ironically he felt his own mind the source of his death, illustrating once again the destruction of rational thought and perception. Fighting brought out feelings and realizations O’Brien never knew he had …you’re never more alive than when you’re almost dead. You recognize what’s valuable (O’Brien 81). Although this time forced the men to act in an inconceivable manner, sometimes they looked for the best and grasped the things in life that matter the most. Other times, the soldiers did not know what to feel and were torn by feeling both love and hate, unsure of whether to remember the loved ones they have and withstand the pain for them, or hate everyone for killing and fighting (O’Brien 17). This struggle of emotions caused many to fall to one extreme, leaving them incapable of feeling everything designed for humans. O’Brien not only personally describes his own experiences, but sees and assumes those of the men around him as well In the presence of his fathers and uncles, he pretended to look forward to doing his patriotic duty, which was also a privilege, but at night he prayed with his mother that the war might end soon (O’Brien 17) Going to war is characterized as such an honorable affair that a boy who is only going out of obligation, prays each night to stay at home with his mother and not have to participate in such a horrendous act. O’Brien recalls thinking of himself as just a kid at war, in love (O’Brien 1). Numerous men had so much going for them but, even at a young age, had to detach themselves from their lives and loved ones to fight for a cause they frequently could not even remember. With physical deaths looming around the men daily, they were unsure how to react when they felt something they weren’t used to. O’Brien remembers a time when they stumbled across a baby water buffalo and, with no apparent regard for life, a soldier shot it over and over until it collapsed forever, then saw the soldier …crying. He tried to say something, but then cradled his rifle and went off by himself (O’Brien 7). With his personal experience of daily warfare, O’Brien’s individual perspective presents an emotional and detailed description of the repercussions of war on a soldier and his life.

With Hemingway’s influence and broad view of World War I, O’Brien himself wrote a novel basing it on his own personal wartime experiences, which some say is one of the best war stories in history. These men illustrate an accurate account of war and the effects it has on a soldier but, regardless of the perspective, one can reach the conclusion that war is still war, with consequences and life changing occurrences. Although these soldiers suffer countless attacks and dispiriting aggression, somewhere in the hate and hostility they find something astonishing and nothing else like it (O’Brien 81).

Maria Kozic’s “Brady Bunch” is an appropriation of the intro to a famous 70’s television show which focused on the trials and tribulations of a middle-class American family. Maria Kozic was born in 157, lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.

The artwork has been painted with acrylic paints onto silkscreen and has then been attached to triangular prisms of wood. This then means that when you look at it from opposite angles it shows two different images. This idea has been used to represent the flickering of a TV screen as well as showing that theres more to television than just what you see on the screen.

The piece was created in 185 in Melbourne, Australia, where Maria does the vast majority of her work.

The purpose of this artwork was o show that there is more to television than just the faces that you see on the screen. beneath each of the happy smiley faces on the selected theme ‘The Brady Bunch’, there was much much more than the happy life that is depicted on TV. Underneath each of those faces was a whole lot of secrets that had been hidden from the general publics eye to avoid unwanted publicity. Each of those actors actually have a personal life that they didnt want to share. This is the idea that Maria Kozics chose to depict.

“A Stench of Kerosene” is a story written by Amrita Pritam, and is about Indian culture. It focuses on the marriage between the two central characters, Manak and Guleri, and the way in which their relationship is affected by this culture. One of the key- points in this short story, is the difference between Eastern (as in the story) and Western marriage customs and views towards life in general. All of these factors are important in deciding on what view of Indian culture Amrita Pritam has portrayed.

Firstly, I shall examine the view of village life that is given in the story. This aspect is a part of the cultural setting and makes the story and the view in which it is told from, very distinctive. The role of men in this story is told as being primarily in manual labour, in fields and to run the family business. The role of the female however, and the mother inparticular, is the key role to examine. We find out that this is very matriarchal orientated society, and the majority of importance in the household is with the mother. The mother is a power-figure and has dominant control of the home and the whole family in general. This makes the story distinctive as the oldest male would usually be the highest figure in a household, but here the oldest female is portrayed as the main leader of the house. I am led to believe therefore, that Pritam has taken a very empowering view of women in society, not just because of the position of the mother in the family, but also because of the way in which Pritam demonstrates the mother’s power. Pritam is leaning almost towards a feminist view, and may also be portraying the society either as very primitive, or highly advanced, it could go both ways. In general, Pritam’s view of Indian culture in the village is very distinctive and gives the story added cultural depth.

Courtship and marriage customs is another topic, which Pritam has taken as a central theme to her story. Pritam tells us that there is not always courtship when two people meet. For example, when Manak wanted to marry Guleri he had to ask her father first, in order to ‘settle the bride price’. This was what was expected of a young man. This gives conflicting views of females. Pritam portrays the mother as being the respected and powerful figure in a family, and then she also portrays women as being objects to be sold. There must, therefore be a heavy reliance on women becoming mothers in this society. Once both parties had agreed the price, the marriage customs are still dissimilar to Western culture. The bride has to move to the husband’s village and home, and act as an ‘adopted daughter in-law’ of her husband’s parents. Usually after marriage, the bride has to be cut off from her family and her old life. This is typical of Indian marriage customs in the way that women are treated as objects to be exchanged for money and used for social betterment. Pritam takes a stern view of marriage customs and is very frank in describing the relative brutality of the nature of marriage.

Following on from the previous section, relationships between husbands and wives is also another key topic in Pritam’s study of Indian culture. We see that Manak is deeply in love with Guleri and he displays his affection, somewhat peculiarly, by begging Guleri not to go to the fair, as he is so strongly against his second marriage. He doesn’t replace Guleri and show’s no true affection towards his new wife, but is made to look like a deceitful and weak- minded man because of his mothers treasonous behaviour towards Guleri. This is not unusual for this culture as having an heir is a very important part of this society. In essence, a generation of a family only exists to preserve the next generation, to continue the families’ role in society. The actions of Manak’s mother, is a microcosm of Indian society and attitudes towards marriage. In this society, some marriages are seen as formalities, and even without love, they exist “ I am not his wife, just someone he happened to marry”. The young wife is often viewed therefore, as having very little or no say in the running of a household. Pritam has a very harsh or callous view of marriage, and portrays it as being something that is very easily broken, and often is. However, we also get the idea that Pritam does understand the morals, ethics and sanctity of marriage, despite her heartless portrayal of it.

Similar to the last section, relationships between mothers and sons is also a central issue. It is a parallel theme along with Manak and Guleri’s relationship. As I have said before, this society is very matriarchal and the mother is the power figure in a home. Manak demonstrates the great respect he has for his mother by saying “in obedience of custom and my mother”. Manak’s mother takes control of his marriage against Manak’s will, but he does not complain. She dismisses Manak’s wants and feelings and acts to gain for herself. His mother is very demanding and Manak and the reader are led to believe that she is more of a controlling, masculine figure than a woman. Because she is not given a name, Pritam has dehumanised her. The mother’s views of marriage are reflective of Pritam’s as she is dismissive and callous towards the custom and basic moral. Pritam portrays these relationships between mothers and sons to be full of deep respect, but mainly about control and empowerment on the mother’s part.

In my opinion, Pritam has portrayed this society as she would expect it to be. This may be based on experience, personal or through a family member, or maybe on her own knowledge of her culture. She makes a bold statement about important issues, which she feels strongly about, and maybe disagrees with certain aspects of this society and way of living. She addresses taboo’s such as death, adultery and infertility comfortably and links them in to the story structure. However this story is viewed, it is certainly a tribute, to a culture separate perhaps to the one she lives in, and an important literary tradition. She sees herself as the voice of the nation and in a sense she has written an autobiography of the nation, including all of the distinguishing points of the culture, and all the points she wishes to protest against.

LIFO conformity rule tax code require that if you use LIFO for tax purposes, you must use it for financial accounting purposes.

There is a lot of industry clustering.

LIFO is not allowed in some countries.

LIFO companies report a reconciliation of LIFO values to FIFO values (LIFO reserve). This is allowed by the IRS and required by GAAP.

Inventory LIFO + LIFO Reserve = Inventory FIFO

Cost of Good Sold LIFO

- Increase in LIFO reserve

+ Decrease in LIFO reserve

Cost of Goods Sold FIFO

Why is the LIFO Reserve Interesting?

The LIFO reserve is the cumulative excess of LIFO Cost of Goods Sold over what would have been Cost of Goods Sold had the firm used FIFO.

The increase in the reserve times the tax rate equals the taxes saved this year (taxes postponed) by using LIFO.

The total reserve times the tax rate equals the cumulative taxes saved (postponed) by using LIFO.

Using this simple formula we can see how much some companies have saved by using LIFO. Using an estimated marginal tax rate of 40%

18 Estimated Cumulative

($ in millions) LIFO Reserve Tax Benefit

Exxon $,67.00 $1,06.0

General Motors ,68.00 07.0

Caterpillar ,067.00 86.80

Ford Motor 1,7.00 558.80

General Electric 1,08.00 4.0

Note These were not picked at random. They are the firms with the largest LIFO Reserves at the end of 18.

Examination of Charcters in the Play Hedda Gabler

Henrik Isben, author of the famous play Hedda Gabler, is called the father of modern drama and his play Hedda Gabler perfectly demonstrates why he is given this title. The way Isben jumped forward from traditional 1th century theater and focused on character rather than plot. “Henrik Ibsen was born in the Stockman Building in Skien, Norway. After leaving school at age fifteen and working for six years as a pharmacists assistant, Ibsen went to Christiania hoping to continue his studies at Christiania University.”(Linnea) While attending Christiana University Ibsen decided that writing would be his career and is where he began to write poems and plays. One of his popular plays Hedda Gabler, is a play concerning a frustrated aristocratic woman and the vengeance she inflicts on herself and those around her. Hedda Gabler is a play that focuses on the role of women in a male-dominated society. Ibsen is careful to present the character, not merely as a woman troubled by her own womanhood, but as a multifaceted and vague protagonist with a range of option and insinuation. Haggard by her good looks and manipulative ways, the cast of characters surrounding Hedda fall victim to her dangerous games.

As Wellek and Lawall put it We must pity her as a tortured, tormented creature caught in a web of circumstance, as a victim, in spite of her desperate struggles to dominate and control the fate of those around her(Wellek and Lawall 1). “Her entrance introduces her dominant trait, a desire to control those she feels to be beneath her-especially Tesman.” (Linnea) Most of the people who come into contact with Hedda Gabler seem to be intimidated by her. No other character in the play is as cruel and beleaguered as Hedda. She is her own victim in the play and she is the one character that stands out. Hedda exist as mercurial, appealing, and cursed with aggravation and an aim to hurt everyone around her.

Hedda has married George Tesman a wordy doctrinaire, dull and derivative man for very practicable reasons. She behaves with cold disdain towards her husband. Her relationship with Tesman is based on what she can gain from him not her love for him. Hedda, having reached a certain age and possibly lacking the financial resources to live independently, consents to marrying Tesman for those reasons. “Hedda insists that Tesman buy a house which he cannot afford; when they move in, the genteel pretensions of the house irritate her it smells of death and lavender, it is too light, the piano is allwrong.” (Barstow) In other words nothing seems to satisfy this woman. Hedda is a mediocre wife to George and hardly tolerates him. She cannot bear the idea of being a conservative wife or mother, and refuses to confess the fact that she is pregnant. She is disgusted by the thought of bearing his child. She is in hopeless fear and rather terrified refutation of her pregnancy.

Berte, Hedda and Tesman’s maid on the other hand is just scared to be around Hedda and tries to do everything she can to please her but nothing appears to be good enough for Hedda. Every diminutive thing she does makes Hedda distress. “Tesman, we really can’t go on keeping this maid/ Look at that! She’s left her old hat lying on the chair” (Anthology 487) It seems as if Hedda tries to find things to pick on Berte about in this case it turns out that the old hat was Aunt Julia’s.

“Juliane Tesman, the aunt of George Tesman, is perhaps the only one in the play who can see beyond Heddas facade to discover her true self.” (Dulles) Aunt Julia is not wanted in the household by Hedda either. Although she has not done anything to Hedda, Hedda insist on being denote towards her. “She’s beautiful-beautiful. Hedda is beautiful. God bless and keep you, Hedda Tesman. For George’s sake.” And Hedda replies “Oh-let me go, please” (Anthology 487) Hedda shows how callous she is here by showing Aunt Julia that she really doesn’t care about her or her nephew. When Aunt Julia calls Hedda by her full name, Hedda Tesman it makes Hedda furious. Aunt Julia puts up with Heddas insults so long as she can give her news of her pregnancy and thus perpetuate the Tesman name. She knows that by calling Hedda’s full wedded name makes her very annoyed.

Eilert Loevborg is Hedda’s ex-lover on which she lives explicitly to because of the bond they once shared. Loevborg once was a drunk who turned himself around completely with the help of Thea Elvsted. Hedda finds a way to distress Loevborg because of her jealousy of the bond that he and Thea have formed by luring Loevborg back to alcohol and sending him to a party where he looses the manuscript that he and Mrs. Elvsted had worked so hard on. By Tesman finding the manuscript and giving it to Hedda creates a dilemma. Instead of giving the manuscript back to Loevborg Hedda burns it, destroying the life that Thea and Loevborg created together calling it there child. “Im burning your child, Thea! You with your beautiful wavy hair! The child Eilert Loevborg gave you. I’m burning it! I’m burning your child!” (Anthology 57) This is the climax of the play because once Loevborg finds out he has lost it Hedda hands him a pistol and tells him to kill himself persuading him to “Do it beautifully” (Anthology 56) “Loevborg not only does not do it beautifullyas Hedda ordersbut doesnt do it at all. Instead he ends up in a brothel and becomes the victim of an accident when he gets into a scuffle and the gun goes off in his pocket, lodging a fatal bullet in his abdomen.” (Silverman) The reason that I identify this as the climax is because it is the point of the story where there is great intensity. This is the turning point in the play.

Judge Brack, probably the only one who can manage Hedda due to his upsurge amount of information, is a degenerated man who uses what he knows to manipulate others. Brack’s scheming nature can perhaps be considered the most compelling implement that he has. He is no better then Hedda and it is he at the end that gets Hedda back for the wrong she has done to others by blackmailing her. “Well, luckily there is no danger, as long as I hold my tongue.” (Anthology 56)

Hedda is perpetually bored and she keeps herself entertained by shooting her fathers pistols. These weapons express arrange of control and power that might be detained by those who are lacking power. A life of conventionality without faith leads her to boredom, emotional infertility, and suicide. By Loevborg not committing suicide beautifully as she ordered him to, Hedda feels bound to put things right by doing it herself, confusing everyone around her. Hedda’s life is sensibly empty, and maybe one reason she takes her life is because she is drained of feelings. “Although Ibsen supplies us with plenty of realistic reasons for Heddas suicideher pregnancy, her entrapment by Brack, and her boredomthe most fascinating one arises out of her disgust with Lovborgs end.” (Silverman)

Heddas power is so extensive that her own self-destruction leads almost unavoidably to the obliteration of the other characters lives. As a result the cast of characters surrounding Hedda fall victim to her dangerous games but it she in the end that disintegrate.

The most interesting country I know is India. I still remember the day. when my family decided to go to India on our summer vacation. I was not happy with the decision that my family made because I wanted to enjoy my summer with my friends, but India turned out to be an interesting country. I got to learn a lot of interesting things about India such as the culture of the country, the interesting places, and the Indian movie industry.

The culture of India is very hard to describe because there were so many things I got to experience while I was there. The religion is the most important aspect of India’s culture. Hindus, and Muslims are the most prominent religious groups and are an essential part of Indian society. Hindus worship Shiva, Ram, or Krishna or some other Goddess, and Muslims worship Allah. India’s official language is Hindi. My family and I speak Gujrati, which is also known as one of the language of India. However, English also has an important role in India because it’s the official working language in India. The dressing style of India are best known to me, because it has a great amount of color, texture, and styles in garments worn by the Indians. The Indian Saris, cholis, colorful lehanges and traditional salwar kamez, which have been worn in India over the centuries. The style of cooking was one of the best experiences of my time, because what I ate in America at my home was so totally different then what I ate in India. The spices and the basic flavors made it too good, and desserts were just to far out awesome such as rasagulla, sandesh, rasamalai, and gulab-jamuns.

Another interesting thing I learned about India was the land marks. There were so many interesting places I went to in India such as the Taj Mahal. The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a love tribute builds taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, of marble to his wife. My dad told me that after they built the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan cut off the hands of all the workers who had worked on it so they would not try to build something as beautiful as Taj Mahal. The Gateway of India another place I went to, and it’s built with yellow stone in Indo-sarcenic. The Gateway of India is the starting point for most tourists who want to explore the city, because it’s by the sea where they can get onto one of the bubbling little motor launches for a short cruise through Bombay’s natural harbors.

While visiting India also be sure to catch the movie industry, it is one of the biggest money making businesses. India calls its movie industry “Bollywood”. Bollywood has set the record for making so many movies in a year. When we went to the theaters to see a movie it would be packed always, and the tickets would be sold out, so we had to get them from the dealers who sells them as illegally. A lot of the time people buy the illegal tickets because they are cheap. Bollywood movies are mostly about love stories or family life, and all the movies have to have songs and dances which makes most of the movies a hit. The people of India have this passion for the movies which been around for long time, and I also enjoy watching Hindi Movies.

In conclusion, I think my experience for India was different than I thought it would be, because the culture of the country, the interesting place like Taj Mahal and the movie industry taught me a lot about India. I really enjoyed the trip. I would love to go back next summer to India.

Should juvenile Offenders be tried as adults? This question has become a hot topic in this country. What should be their punishment for the crimes? In my opinion, juveniles who commit serious crimes should not be tried as adults. Not only is trying these teens as adults unjust and unfair, but also there are other negative effects on juveniles. They’re other alternatives that our society can use to help make a juvenile a better human being. We also need to realize that children are our future, and we are throwing their future away.

There are many negative effects of trying juveniles as adults. One of these effects occurs when juveniles who are tried as adults are released from jail. They tend to re-offend more quickly and commit more crimes. Another reason these juveniles re-offend more quickly is that while they are in jail, these juveniles have no other role models beside the other inmates, who are usually hardened criminals. When juveniles are released, they try to commit more crimes because they have learned a lot of from adult’s criminals.

Another reason juveniles should not be tired as adults because when they are serving time in jail and it will more likely lead to greater conflicts. An example of this was my friend whose brother named javed was a gang member. Javed was sixteen years old and had been tried as on adult on two counts of crimes; each jail sentence was nine months in a security prison. Each time when Javed got out of jail, he returned to the street and was still involved in crimes and gangs. All that time in jail helped him to master were more crimes tricks. If he had been tried as a juvenile, he would have received a light sentence and counseling of some kind to help him get off the street.

The court system of our country needs to treat the juveniles different then the adults because children are our country’s future, and we need to teach them to be better people and make them realize it. All over the world America stands for a place of freedom, a place of peace. No longer will America stand for this if we do not lay down stricter lines for today’s juvenile offenders. The future must also be protected, not put in a jail and ignored.

British/European mechs

Due to the increased reliance on the British armed forces towards the end of the campaign, disparate types of European mechs were scraped and cannibalised to support the British Cavalry frontlines. As such, pure continental European mechs are as vanishing rare as gold dust.

4 types of British Mech were produced during the war. All were named after figures from Arthurian legend.

Galahad Close support mech. (heavy Mech)

Help with essay on Mechs of the post war world

cheap essay writing service

Designed to support infantry in storming built up areas and to close with the enemy in field battles, the Galahad is a dangerous adversary at close quarters. It is equipped with twin 50 calibre Gatling cannons. It also possessed a shoulder mounted RPG, used to shatter buildings and tank formations. Common variants that appeared towards the end of the war replaced both Gatling guns with massive flamethrowers. Though massively unethical, these weapons of mass carnage were very popular. These variants are rarely used today, as that much flamethrower grade petroleum is difficult to come by. These are by far the most common Mecha in Europe.

Lancelot frontal assault mech. (Super heavy mecha)

The Lancelot was designed for ranged duels with other mechs, and had a high rate of losses against the hordes of African mechs. However, they are still common, as many were still on the production lines when the great burn occurred. Low slung to reduce its profile and with powerful sensors to protect it, it was heavily armed with 4 beam cannons. Today, Lancelot’s are used as artillery pieces to the more common Galahads. Their heavy weapons can turn even the fortifications of the elders and spacers to rubble, but they are difficult to maintain. One variant replaced the back beam cannons with missile pods, and these are still popular today, if the ammo can be found.

The Lancelot may fire all its guns at a single target as a single action. Roll once and apply the result to each shot, but roll for dodge separately for each attack. The pilot may split his weapons between targets using the same rules, so he could fire all four guns at different targets, gaining the multi action penalty, or fire guns at two different targets, one suffering the multiaction penalty, or fire guns at one target and one at another. However, due to the delicate equilibrium required to fire all guns in this mode, if the Lancelot moves it loses this rule.

Mordred scout Mech. (medium Mecha)

The Mordred is scout and assassin rolled into one. With great speed and agility, and armed with a long-range sniper rifle and a close combat chainsaw, it is a vicious Mech capable of close or long-range dissection. One of its major boons is infact its advanced sensor systems, which allow it to gather detailed Intel on enemy movements and strength, even down to the amount of ammo they hold in their hoppers. These mecha require a detailed maintenance regime, but it is one not heavy on expertise or rare materials. As such, they are still common throughout Europe, and are used as outriders, scouts and fast raiders. In this role, they are comparable to the dreaded Kitsune.

Arthur Command mech. (heavy Mech)

The Arthur was a very rare Mech, and only 4 are known to still be in existence in Britain. Armed with a beam cannon, an incredibly rare plasma sword and with incredible field ops and C&C abilities, this Mech fulfils its role of field commander with ease and flair. However, Arthur’s are very difficult to maintain, difficult to repair. They are greatly prized by every nation and at least one Mech has been abducted by the Spacers, reducing the total on earth, while another is thought to be in the hands of an African tribe. Many British lords have salvaged production lines for these Mecha at great cost however, and plan to use these to restore damaged ones and build more. If this occurs, the balance of power in Europe could shift dramatically, with the new British kingdoms gaining massive territories in continental Europe.

Hypothesis it should start low to the river bed then increase as it goes past the middle and the right side. The results I obtained for site 1A fit my null hypothesis. It starts higher to the surface of the water but then gets lower past the middle and the left. For example 0.m from the left bank (outside) was 0.m from the surface and at .m from the left bank (inside0 it was 0.46m from the surface. Also the deepest point on the graph was nearer the middle than the left side at 0.5m from the surface. It needs to be the other way around for it to fit my hypothesis.

Site 1B These results fit my hypothesis, at first it started high to the surface of the water but then decreased rapidly to the rivers bed, then at the start of the middle area it increased up to the surface, also the lowest point closest to the rivers bed was at 1.6m from the left bank (outside) which was 0.7m from the surface of the water. Comparing this result to 4.6m from the left bank (inside) was at 0.5m from the surface of the water, a great difference.

Now looking at the bed load weight, in theory in a meander, the heavier bed load should be on the outside edge because the velocity is greater meaning it has more energy to pick up heavier rocks, but also it can carry the smaller rocks but at a faster velocity than the bigger rocks, where on the inside, where it is slower, it does not have as much energy to carry the bigger rocks, and can only carry the smaller rocks.

Here are my two hypotheses about bed load weight

Help with essay on poppets

cheap essay writing service

Hypothesis There should be heavier and larger bed load on the outside than on the inside

Null Hypothesis There should be lighter smaller bed load on the outside than on the inside

Site 1A Overall, site 1A results fit my hypothesis, the heaviest and largest bed load were all situated on the left side of the river (outside) and the right side (inside) had the most amount of small bed load. E.g.1A Left (1.5mm) 84g (0.5mm) 1g

Right (1.5mm) 10g (0.5mm) 75g

Site 1B Site B was very similar to site A, it follows my hypothesis exactly. The left (outside) side has the largest and heaviest amount of large rocks and the right (inside) side has the largest amount of the smallest rock. E.g.1B left (1.5mm) 6g (0.5mm) 1g

Right (1.5mm) 1g (0.5mm) 14g

In theory the velocity should be faster on the outside edge of the meander curve than it is on the inside which should be slower. The results shown are measured in counts per min (CPM) which can be converted to meters per second (M/S) using the water velocity calibration chart in methodology pg11. (The results in m/s are on the back of the velocity meter graph page)

Here are my two hypotheses for velocity

Hypothesis Water should run faster on the outside and slower on the inside

Null hypothesis Water should run faster on the inside and slower on the outside.

Site 1A These sets of results neither fit my hypothesis or null hypothesis because the outside is not the slowest but it is not the fastest either. On the first attempt the middle was fastest at 08 CPM, then it was the left side (outside) at 0 CPM then on the right hand side (inside) it was 106 CPM. For the next two attempts it was the same, faster in the middle then the left and then the right.

Site 1B the results for site 1B were slightly better than the first set but it still does not fully fit my hypothesis, in the first attempt, the middle was fastest at 1 CPM then again it was the left side at 18 CPM then finally the right side was slowest at only 4 CPM.

This again was the same for the next two attempts.

In the epic poem, “ The Odyssey” by Homer, the protagonist, Odysseus, goes on a ten year Odyssey and, killed throughout the journey, he meets numerous tasks and a few men were subtracted from his crew. He fought Cyclops suitors, been held prisoner despite his many, but feats and his noble character, many ponder about his heroism. Some assume that Odysseus is indeed a hero by his ostentatious tasks in his Odyssey. However, a few people who decide to look deeper in the idea and consider more about the definition of a “hero” believe Odysseus is more on the “nonhero” side. During Odysseus’ journey, he thought a lot of himself and going home to his wife, he was also distracted a lot with women. His selfishness, his curiousness, and the help from the gods doubted Odysseus’ heroism.

In the dictionary the definition of a hero is, “a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.” In the Cyclops cave, he waited in the cave for two days because they couldn’t get out of the cave. It didn’t seem like Odysseus gave much of an effort to free him and his men from the cave. Even if there is no way to acquire a way out of the cave, he could try to hide his men. The Cyclops ate two of Odysseus’ men, if the Cyclops didn’t see the small group, then the lives of the four men may possibly be saved. A real hero would usually hide his men while he would stay and try to think of a plan. So Odysseus’ lack of sacrifice lost him some “points.”

Although Odysseus might earn some credit for his brave plan when he stabbed the Cyclops’s eye out and gave his name as “Nobody” he also foolishly yelled out at the Cyclops while he was sailing away, his name. His boasting did not help him much. In fact, the crew had rock thrown at them and also Odysseus was punished. Almost, the whole Odyssey, all Odysseus could think about was his family coming home to his wife and son. He did not think much about his crew, which was why he lacked the heart of sacrifice.

Also, Odysseus’ Odyssey was delayed many times because of his distraction with women. Odysseus had a great deal of help from the god, Athena and the sea lymph and he was still struggling on his journey. Also, Odysseus seemed to have no knowledge of why he kills. When he murdered the suitors, it did not seem like he had a reasonable reason to murder them. Although the suitors’ behaviors were unpleasant, death was not what they deserve. Odysseus also killed Amphinomous, who was only one out of the many suitors, was a kind man and definitely not worthy of death.

So, in conclusion, Odysseus’ “unheroic” acts conquered his heroic deeds. Although Odysseus had extreme care for his wife and son, bravery and was noble, he lacked the care for others and sometimes is even a bit absentminded. His distraction and curiosity slowed him down entirely, so sometimes during the Odyssey, he would stay in a place longer than he planned. Odysseus falls short of becoming a hero and is merely a very brave and noble soul.
