At Zazzy Sports and Entertainment Company, we have the privilege to help and serve our clients. Some of our clients include colleges, universities, professional athletes, musical groups, singers, and many others. But today, we will be discussing one of our newest clients, Jorge Martinez. He is a professional Hispanic racecar driver involved with NASCAR as a member of the Elliott Race Team. Our objective is to produce 1.5 million dollars for our client. To produce 1.5 million dollars, we came up with various plans. First plan was to contact several companies. The companies we reached were Advance Auto Parts, Cheerios, Budweiser, Lowes, Panasonic, Dr. Pepper, Chiquita and Goodyear. Advance Auto Parts bought the Lower Hood part of the car, sponsoring 1 million dollars. Cheerios bought the B post of the car, sponsoring $150,000. Budweiser bought the C post of the car, sponsoring $50,000. Lowes bought the Deck lid of the car, sponsoring $750,000. Panasonic bought the TV Panel(rear) of the car for $500,000. Also, Dr. Pepper bought the side of the rear for $00,000, Chiquita bought the Lower Rear Quarter Panel for $100,000, and Goodyear bought the Front of Rear Tire for $50,000. As many of these sponsors promote their product on television, we figured that they can use Jorge Martinez to promote Hispanic audiences. We chose and asked Advance Auto Parts to have Jorge Martinez in their commercial to promote their product and to create huge attention toward Jorge Martinez. As Jorge Martinez appears on television, it created fans and another way to make more money. By having fans, we were able to sell merchandise including shirts, NASCAR working gloves, NASCAR model cars, hats, and jackets. The shirts were 0 dollars each, the NASCAR working gloves were 0 dollars each pair, the NASCAR model cars were 10 dollars each, the hats are 15 dollars each and the jackets were between $00.00-$00.00 (depending on size). Selling nation wide in Advance Auto Parts, we were able to sell 00 shirts, 150 working gloves, 50 model cars and 100 jackets. In merchandise, we were able to raise about $44,500. All together from sponsorships and merchandise our company raised $,44,500 for Jorge Martinez.

Our company chose the selected prospects because they were in fact very popular.

Advance Auto Parts, Cheerios, Budweiser, Lowes, Panasonic, Dr. Pepper, and Goodyear

knew they attracted many, many consumers. We indeed could have chosen others, but we

considered these to be the top prospects and top sponsors for NASCAR. Some of the

other prospects we could have chosen were Auto Zone or Federated Auto Parts, instead of

Advance Auto Parts, and Cheerios, instead of Kelloggs, Fruit Loops or Golden Grahams.

Instead of Budweiser, we could have also chosen Coors Light or Miller Light, and for

Lowes, we could have chosen Home Depot. Rather than Panasonic, we could have

chosen Sony, Hitachi, RCA, or Toshiba, and for Dr. Pepper, the choices went from Coca

Cola, Pepsi, 7-UP, Sprite, Mellow Yellow or Mountain dew. And finally for Goodyear,

we could have chosen Firestone or Bridgestone. These are called suggested leads, out of

all of these we only chose specific ones we knew that would be perfect sponsors for Jorge

Martinez. Our company has also prepared a Telephone script, but will be shown at the

end of this report.

Our company has prepared a chart to illustrate Jorge Martinez’s features and

benefits chart, but it will be shown at the end of this report. We also created a sample

approach dialogue.

Our Company [walking up to Advance Auto Parts manager] Hello, Mr. Stevens.

As we already have done business before, I would like to talk to you about this other

offer.

Advance Auto Parts [smiles. shakes hand] Well, hello John. Sure, lets go to my

office and talk.

[both walk into Mr. Stevens office]

Advance Auto Parts [shows John a chair] Have a sit John.

Our Company [sits down and hands out information] Thank you, Mr. Stevens.

Now, about our business. We just received our newest client, Jorge Martinez. He is a

Hispanic, professional racecar driver involved with NASCAR. He will be driving a Ford

Thunderbird and he is a part of the Elliott Race Team. As you know, our company helps

the needs of the people but to help them, we also need your help.

Advance Auto Parts [crosses his hands and listens carefully] Well, John. I’ am

somewhat interested but I would like to know more. How can Jorge Martinez help our

company?

Our Company [looks directly at him] As we get into more of the business, for

example, Jorge Martinez can appear in one of your commercials. With fans producing,

merchandise will be stocked at your stores nation wide and more people can come to your

stores to buy. It would give you business as well as giving Jorge Martinez the money he

needs.

Advance Auto Parts [scratches his chin and nods] Hmm.. I like the sound of

that. What offerings of the car do you have left?

Our Company [smiles. stands up and shows him the parts] We have the lower

hood for 1 million, and the deck lid for 750,000 and other that’s shown on the paper.

Advance Auto Parts [nods yes] Yes, we will take the lower hood for 1 million.

Our Company [smiles happily and shakes hands with him] Thank you, Mr.

Stevens! Thank you for your time and business. I am sure Jorge Martinez will be happy to

hear this.

Advance Auto parts [shakes hand] No problem, John.

Customers provide a lot of information through their body angle, facial expressions, arms, hands, and legs. Each of these channels are very imperative in face-to-face communication. Like in body angle, back and forth motions indicate a positive outlook, while side-to-side movements suggest insecurity and doubt. The eyes are the most important area of the face. By looking at a customer’s eyes, salespeople can often determine when their presentations have made an impression. Eye Position can indicate a customer’s thought process. Eyes straight ahead mean a customer is passively receiving information but showing little effort to analyzing the meaning and not really concentrating on the presentation. Interpreting arm movements is intensity. Customers will use more arm movements when they are conveying an opinion. Hand gestures are extremely expressive. Like, open and relaxed hands are a positive signal, especially with palms facing up. Self-touching gestures typically indicate tension. The dialogue up there clearly shows good listening skills and effective questioning technique.

Product presentation is very important to get customers to buy. Here are two

sample selling sentences. 1) Here we have various parts you can buy ) If you can

help us, products like these can appear in your store that will attract more customers.

We also provided selling aids like a picture of Jorge Martinezs merchandise(work

gloves) and a picture of Jorge Martinezs toy cars. Some demonstrations of selling points

are 1) Having the gloves just as gloves and showing another with designs of Jorge

Martinezs car and number. ) Having a race car toy with great designs of Jorge

Martinezs car and having a plain car that says NASCAR. Jorge Martinez can also get

into the products by having his signature in every work glove and toy car.

Although most of our sponsors were satisfied, we also received objections such

as 1) I need more time to think about it. ) Our company cant afford that right now. We

came up with suggested answers to these objections. First, you shouldnt force them and

instead of arguing, listen. Some answers are 1) I understand. I would also want to have

time to think about it and talk to my partners. If you do we agree of what we have to

offer, you would be very satisfied) Oh that’s no problem, Mr. X! We have different

pricing range that you can choose from. It gives the same benefits to your company. By

answering the objections correctly, some customers changed their minds.

To close to sale, there are many options of closing methods. Two suggestions are

Which Close and Direct close. When we did a Direct close, it went something like this

Company- Based on what Ive shown you, how do you feel about this idea?

Customer- Yes. I like it. Lets go talk to my partners and work on it.

This method is when you ask for the sale. It is used when you did not already get your

customers agreement. When we did a Which close, it went something like this

Company-Which one do you prefer? This lower hood for 1 million or the B post

for 15,000?

Customer- I prefer the lower hood for 1 million since it shows more of our

logo.”

This method encourages a customer to make a decision between two items. It makes it

easy for a customer because only one simple decision must be made.

To get our sponsors satisfied, we suggested services. We guaranteed that more

customers will arrive at their store by sponsoring Jorge Martinez. We also suggested that

we will be the one stacking merchandise at their stores. When we talked about this, it

went something like this

Sponsor-How are we for sure that more customers will come to our store?

Company-We guarantee that more customers will come to your stores by giving

you posters to hang up at your store to attract them.

By giving the sponsors guarantees and other products, they were satisfied.

Some follow-up strategies we did are

1) Calling the sponsors the date we promised. ) We sent a thank you note with our

business card. ) We used time immediately after the sale to plan our next encounters

with the sponsors.

Zazzy Sports and Entertainment has completed our task. We have raised enough money for our new client, Jorge Martinez. He thanks all the sponsors that were involved with this project. He is now off to a good start thanks to all our companies, Advance Auto Parts, Cheerios, Budweiser, Lowes, Panasonic, Dr. Pepper, Chiquita and Goodyear.

A Good Grandmother

The Grandmother in “A Good man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor, is deceitful which we see at the very beginning of the story when she asks Bailey to go to Tennessee instead of Florida. She tries to convince Bailey not to go to Florida because of The Misfit who has escaped from the Federal Prison and is heading to Florida. However, her true intentions for wanting to go to Tennessee are to visit some of her connections there.

Later in the story we find the irony of grandmother’s reasoning not to go to Florida when the accident occurs, and they meet face to face with The Misfit after all. Because of grandmother’s recognition of The Misfit he has her family killed.

Her uncaring characteristic is shown when she begins trying to save herself from being killed by using her faith to convince The Misfit he is a good man regardless of the crimes he has committed.

Cheap Custom Essays on A Good Grandmother

essay writing service

As a result we do see her making a change in him when she sees as if he were going to cry. And again after The Misfit kills grandmother he says “It’s no real pleasure in life”.

In conclusion, grandmother’s humorous satire can be portrayed when she and the children convince Bailey to visit the old Plantation house she remembers, only to realize after they have driven quite a distance down the dirt road that the plantation house is in Tennessee and not in Georgia. After the accident she hopes she is injured so that Bailey’s wrath would not come down on her all at once.

Walk into any Godiva shop and you know you have entered a special place. The curved golden walls, art nouveau designs and the elegant displays of chocolates all work in unison to say “come in to browse and take something home.” We know we aren’t just buying candy; we are experiencing Godiva. Traditional brick-and-mortar establishments in Europe that go online have much to offer over American dot-com start-ups. This is because most European shoppers prefer to purchase recognized brands from retailers they know and trust versus solely on price. Like many Americans, most Europeans want to experience the feelings their trusted retailers offer. This paper provides some history on the difficulties of online retail in Europe and specifies a few reasons why I believe traditional brick-and-mortar companies will prevail in Europe over American style dot-coms.

Despite dot-com Internet companies being the first to take advantage of e-commerce, many brick-and-mortar companies now offer products and services over the Internet. Many of these traditional brick-and-mortar companies are fighting to succeed with the new click-and-mortar strategies of online business. According to Webopedia, “click-and-mortar describes a store that exists online and in the physical world.” A well-known American example of this is Barnes and Noble. With click-and-mortar companies establishing stronger presences online, they are competing directly with many much younger dot-com companies and are driving them out of business. A key advantage click-and-mortar companies like Barnes and Noble have is the ability for customers to order off the Internet and pick the items up at the local bookstore. Many online shoppers, myself included, prefer to purchase recognized brands from retailers we know and trust. Traditional brick-and-mortar companies also normally offer better customer service than most dot-coms and are better able to provide detailed product information that so many customers want.

Over the past decade, the Internet wave has swept over the United States and is now in full swing in Europe. As expected, many dot-com Internet companies are emerging all over Europe hoping to achieve some of the quick successes of the late 10’s American dot-coms. However, even as Europe began this e-commerce move it suffered its first of many dot-com failures in June 000 with Boo.com. With the doors wide open, many of Europe’s established brick and mortar retailers have stepped-up their online shopping experience in the field of e-commerce to capitalize on the homogeneous European culture. So far, this step forward has paid dividends; according to a survey of 546 European online companies, European retailers now control more than two thirds of the online retail market (Elustondo).

Cheap College Papers on Traditional Brick-and-Mortar vs. Dot-Coms

essay writing service

Another factor that has been holding Europe back in the e-commerce market has been the lack of Internet access. Although Europe has lagged behind the U.S. in home Internet, times are changing. Europe’s online market was expected to grow 415% from 1 to 001, according to Jupiter Communications, an e-commerce research group (Sylvia). Their research predicts that online commerce revenues would rise from EUR 8 billion (7.5 billion USD) in 000 to EUR 64 billion (60 billion USD) by 005. Likewise, Jupiter predicted the number of online buyers to grow from 0 million in 000 to over 85 million in 005. Take for example Germany, who in 16 had fewer than 750,000 households connected to the World Wide Web and by 17 had over 5 million online giving traditional German companies a promising prospective to reach existing and future markets. As Europe’s online shoppers rise, the competition between web sites grows.

Dot-coms face much competition with the click-and-mortar business of many European traditional companies. Many of these traditional companies are now available online and still have their traditional brick-and-mortar business to back their new e-commerce segment. This is critical because most of these European companies have long-established relationships with not only its customers but with suppliers, manufactures and financers as well. By maintaining solid customer base loyalty, they are in a strong position to maintain their core business relationships and are able to cut more overhead costs than the newly created dot-com companies are. This essentially allows them to compete in a lower priced e-commerce market with lower risk than their dot-com rivals because they can combine both their traditional and electronic retailing methods to take advantage of both the Internet and traditional customers.

Europe’s traditional companies also hold the upper hand over most American dot-coms because of cultural issues. Brick-and-mortar type companies have a significant advantage by being able to directly market to its customers without violating or offending them. This is because traditional companies are well aware of effective marketing and sales strategies in their region. Often times many small dot-coms realize the implications of culture too late in their e-commerce development. Take for example a dot-com that uses a graphical cartoon of a character waving, with his palm out, to Greece or Nigerian readers. Chances are that this dot-com just lost a portion of their audience because of a poor marketing strategy to different cultures. Mr. Lancaster goes on to add, “The big one is examples…most e-commerce stuff is typically marketing oriented but the right spin in the United States typical doesn’t have the same impact elsewhere (Mottl).” Although cultural issues are important, most are solved with consulting expertise and local feedback. Nevertheless, this is just one more reason I believe brick-and-mortar companies hold the advantage over American dot.coms.

Many Europeans wonder about American’s fascination with credit cards. The credit card is the linchpin of e-commerce in the United States and many dot-coms would not know how to conduct business without them. However, Europeans view credit cards differently. They view credit card owners as people who cannot control their finances; they instead prefer direct bank account debits or cash payments. In my personal view, another reason why traditional click-and-mortar companies have an advantage over dot-coms is that they are in a much better position to work with local banks and regional customers. Even Mark Lancaster, CEO of SDL International, points to currency and data formats as the two obvious snags for global sites and all dot-coms (Mottl).

One clear example of how brick and mortar companies trump pure dot-com companies lies in Europe’s grocery industry. According to an article in Future Company, “groceries account for nearly half of all retail sales in Europe, with Tesco of the UK setting the pace (Bidoli & Eedes). Although their services are still limited in geographic terms, UK consumers can buy groceries online from Tesco in more than 145 of its almost 600 stores. This grocer started its e-commerce trail in 16 and now claims over $ million of sales in groceries a week online. Russell Craig, Tesco spokesman, says “One of the problems that we face is that in the beginning people will by soap powder …but they won’t but fresh food such as meat and produce, which they like to touch and feel,” he goes on to say, “It takes a lot of trust (Pringle).” I believe trust in traditional brick-and-mortar companies often transfers to its online enterprises as well. That is why the best marketing continues to be by word of mouth and pleasant shopping experiences at traditional brick-and-mortar companies often lead to successful click-and-mortar business.

Even as Europe moves to the e-commerce arena, many of the dot-com failures continue to sit at the forefront of European’s minds. The European e-commerce market is more nascent than that of the U.S. Many experts believe the BC e-commerce companies have been overly hyped in Europe by the media and analysts. The primary reason for this is that online retailers tend to seem more glamorous than other types of Internet businesses to include that of dot-coms. That is a primary reason European funding for future e-commerce is directed towards generating savings and enhancing revenues as quickly as possible. Many European financial institutions and lenders remember America’s dot-com failures and they are not willing to invest great amounts of money without some guarantee of making a profit.

The last point I would like to make about the growth of online retailing in Europe is that of regulations and laws. The growth of online e-commerce rests in the hands of regional regulators. The European Commission’s primary emphasis is that of protecting its citizens and business from outside competition. Their new legislation covers such issues as electronic money, copyrighted material and the settlement of disputes arising from online transactions. This should be a great concern to many dot-coms because history has shown that the European government has the ability to stifle the development of dot-com retailing through excessively complex and bureaucratic legislation. The European approach sharply differs from the liberal regulatory environment enjoyed by Internet companies in the US. Their approach most probably will create substantial competitive disadvantages for Internet companies wanting to compete with European online retailers.

Dot-com versus traditional brick-and-mortar online retailers comes down to trust and personal experiences. All chocolate lovers crave the experience of walking through the doors of the Godiva shops. The aroma, colors of chocolate, and mountains of fudge gives us enjoyable memories. Tradition and enjoyable experiences is what continues to bring European customers to traditional retailers. They seek trusted companies who market products to them and their friends. Even lending institutions in Europe would rather hedge their bet and fund click-and-mortar companies than have American type dot-coms take over their country. If you want to experience why people frequent retailers they trust please, visit www.godiva.com to get your mouth watering and your American Credit card working. As you can see, these traditional companies market to Americans as well

I would suggest this book to mystery and adventure lovers because it had a lot of both. But it was to unrealistic and too much fiction for my liking. This book was very boring for me. It was one of those books that wouldn’t end, and the boredom continued.

1. The role of an entrepreneur when starting a business is complicated. The person must first realize that he or she is required to invest a lot of time, energy, and funds in order to open the business. When it comes to funds, the person must realize that, of course, there is a risk that they might lose their money should the business fail. Most importantly, the entrepreneur must recognize a need that customers have. For example, a winter coat store would do well in an area that has cold climates. This is also an examination of a persons environment.

. There is a big difference between a product-producing and service-producing business. Product-producing businesses are businesses that get their business by selling a product, where service-producing businesses do not. For example, Pathmark is a product producing business because they sell groceries. An exterminator would be a service-producing business because they don’t provide a product, but it still is something that improves the quality of life.

. Profit and risk are huge influences on business decisions. If a business is making good money, it might decide to expand by opening more stores or selling more products. If it is not doing as well, they might decide that perhaps they should cut some products that aren’t doing as well from their inventory. Some businesses might also take a risk by expanding, and this could end either way. Some stores may not do as well in some areas, based on population and environment. The afore mentioned winter coat store probably won’t do as well in Florida as it does in upstate New York. Taking a risk could also be beneficial. There might be a winter coat fad in Florida, and that store might thrive, maybe even become very successful because maybe they are the only winter store coat around.

4. Competition causes a business to change its policies. Many businesses have to change in order to compete with other businesses of similar cause. Many businesses may have sales in order to be more competitive. At Home Depot, they will match the price of a product from a competitor and give an extra 10% off the price on top of that. That’s an example of a business changing to be competitive.

5. It is important for a customer to be happy. If the customer is happy, then he or she will go back to that particular business again. Not only that, but he or she will tell all his or her friends about that business, generating more interest in that business. That is why customer satisfaction is important.

6. Small companies grow into large companies because of their success. In the video, Minyard started out as a guy who wanted to feed his friends and it grew into a huge grocery store in North Texas. These companies grow based on success and interest.

7. Companies sometimes form partnerships in order to make the business more successful. They recognize that perhaps they could share the cost of the business, meanwhile they are bringing new ideas, skills, and finance to the business. Sometimes this will save a business.

Lesson #

1. An economic system is the economy of our government, with all the people working as consumers and producers. It must address how businesses are run and

. Capitalism is basically the type of economy that we live in, where we, as consumers, spend money for products. This money then goes back into the economy through the government, peoples salaries, and to buy more product to sell.

. In a capitalistic economy, consumers, producers, and the government all play a role. Basically, producers make a product that is sold to the consumer. The consumer pays for these goods and money goes to the producer and the government through taxes. The government also serves to regulate businesses buy having laws. The government is responsible for making sure that the consumer is treated fairly and safely. They all interact with each other to sustain our economy.

4. People play various roles in a capitalistic economy. Many people serve as both producers and consumers, for they work for a company that provides a good or service and they also buy in order to sustain themselves. Some people also work in the government, acting to enforce laws that keeps our economy balanced.

Lesson #4

1. Laws become very important in day-to-day business operations. Without laws, some businesses can treat their customers unfairly. Some businesses also need the laws so that they can be run safely. With these laws, it probably also serves to help businesses in customer service.

. Contracts are used in the music industry for many reasons. Some agents require bands make a certain amount of albums in a certain amount of time. This ties the band to that particular music label. Some contracts also prevent music from being stolen.

. Agents are used in the music industry in order to provide the artist as a bridge between them and the industry. The agent can provide the artist with the options they may have within the industry.

4. Tort laws can help people who have been harmed or influences by the actions of others. This goes back to the safety of the customer. Some businesses have stores that are dangerous, and these laws can influence a business to have safe practices in their employers and their stores.

5. Intellectual property rights encompass copyrights and other things that give the person ownership of an intangible object. Copyrights, for example, give music artists rights over their songs. They own the song, and if another artist were to try and use that song as their own, they could be subject to legal action.

6. International law can serve to impact business. I spent some time working for Maersk Line Limited aboard the M/V Maersk Tennessee that sailed up and down the coast of South America. While in tehse countries, our ship was subject to international law. In Buenaventura, Colombia, we were always delayed in our sail time by the Colombian police, who insisted on a ship-wide contraband search. By delaying out sail time, we were late to every port thereafter. This affects the longshoremen and those who had to take our cargo from our ship. Our economy is shaped by our laws, so when we encounter laws of other countries, we find that we have to adapt.

Lesson #6

1. Society today is very much about being politically correct. Today we are accepting of every race, culture, and religion. Long ago, this was not the case, and many businesses would only cater to one target audience. Today however, all businesses must allow all types of people allowed to be there.

. It is important for companies to be socially responsible because it provides more business for them. By catering to every kind of person and personality, it generates more business. It also follows through with the Constitution, where everyone is free to do whatever they want within the limits of the law.

. Many businesses run events that attract customers. Some places will have sidewalk sales during the summers in order increase business. Home Depot has a family day for their associates and their families. This shows that Home Depot is a very caring store. This shows consumers that they are responsible.

4. As mentioned before, Home Depot has different events for their employees. Many companies have policies where the employees are valued first. In the video, one company said that the employees come first, then the customer, then the shareholders. If the employees are treated good, then they will treat the customers with the same respect, and therefore the shareholders benefit from this.

5. Pollution control is important for the environment, but companies that employ such laws have a good reputation. Those customers that are conscientious of their environment have respect for companies that employ environment protection laws. This generates more business as their good reputation goes along.

6. It is important for a company to be aware of the community in which they are located. It would be important to focus in on their needs and their culture. In small communities with a large percentage of a certain culture, some businesses that focus in on other cultures might not do as well. Their social focus should be based on the culture of the community, while still respecting the ideals of everyone.

A TALE OF TWO REALMS

Once upon a time, on an Island long ago forgotten, there were two tribes of people which had existed together- the Ingenium and the Corporis. The Ingeniumians occupied the knoll of the island around the volcano surrounded by the Coporisian tribe which spanned the rest of this island. Although there appears to be no physical differences between the people of these two tribes, it is often said that the Ingeniumians are always aloof and preoccupied, as if they were elsewhere whereas the earthly people of Corporis are hardy and occupied, labouring all day in the fields without thought.

To outsiders a strange relationship existed between these two tribes. The Coporisians were tithed by the Ingeniumians and in return the Ingeniumians provided leadership and guidance for the Coporisians. To the many Coporisians who laboured in the fields all day, they eventually grew frustrated by this apparently unfair exchange. The Corporisians couldn’t see why they can’t set up a ruling party themselves since they thought there were no differences between the Ingeniumians and themselves that would warrant their continued tributes towards the tribe of Ingenium.

To the respected tribe of Ingenium,

Following much debate and unrest amongst our tribe recently, the grand council of Corporis have decided to end our tributes to the tribe of Ingenious. We think this outdated and unfounded tradition is not in the fair interests of our tribe and we deem ourselves capable of leading our own people to our destiny.

With much Sincerity, Corporis

48th day of Hibernation, 1606

To the newly independent people of Corporis,

The Grand council of Ingenium expresses their deepest concern at the separation of our tribes. Since the beginning, our tribes have operated with this tithe, and without it our people can’t survive. Furthermore, your tribe is merely an extension of us, and without our direction, you will have no destiny.

We know this because we are blessed with the ability to create miracles. And we make use of this ability everyday. Every time we think and a new and fresh thought springs up- it is a miracle. Every time we feel and experience- it is a miracle. Our curiosity, our hatred, our avarice are all miracles.

You might question our origin and our linage, no one knows how we are blessed with miracles and we are intensely researching this question ourselves, but the answer, we believe, lies beyond this world. Put simply, the people of Ingenium don’t fit into this world through the natural course of evolution. Superficially, we might look the same as you, and structurally we are composed of millions of cells and different chemicals just like you, but ingenium, unlike Corporis isn’t the result of evolution. Our thought process is unique, different to you. It is recognised that we retain some of your mental properties, such as your primal instincts but overall we are so different, so radical and so alien. A great and wise elder of our council known as the Dalai Lama, once stated that our mind is the product of “another plane” (Gaffney & Harvey, 1). Just think of all the unique concepts which we possess- wealth and ownership, ego and emotion, all of which no other organism on the world possess. We can hate each other with so much passion that we scheme to subsequently commit genocide, or we can love each other so that we choose to give up our own survival for another. Do you really think you can seek to explain our behaviour with chains of chemical reactions?

Hence we propose that the people of Corporis end this nonsense immediately and resume our traditional tithe so that order maybe restored within our tribes.

With much concern, Ingenium

1st day of Wake, 1606

Note Ingeniumians,

We may be simple people, but we are not stupid. Don’t try to intimidate or confuse us with your incredible talks of miracles and aliens. Such talk has only made you seem more foolish as everybody understands the principle of evolution. You are perhaps wiser and more intelligent, but this doesn’t make you special, only more evolved. It is clear for all to see that our mind is merely a result of a large network of neurons, and thought is propagated by chemical reactions from outside stimuli. Without connection to the physical world outside, then your minds will never be able to have any basis of thought. Hence our “minds” are our own self-conscious representations of our brain, and since our brain is physically linked to our body, the mind is merely an extension of our body. This you taught to us yourselves many cycles ago.

We warn you that any further threats directed at our republic we not be tolerated.

Republic of Corporis

rd day of Blossom, 161

Corprisians,

Our supplies are scarce but our minds are strong in our beliefs. The mind is not a tangible substance, not like the air we breathe or the water we drink. It is ethereal. Our bodies on the other hand are physical and tangible. Our minds and our bodies are incongruous due to this disparity. Rather than thinking of the connection between the two entities a physical one, the mind is separate from the body yet undeniably linked. Perhaps a metaphor is easier to understand. Picture the tomato crops in your farms. For it to fruit, you have to support the vine with struts, without the struts the vines would collapse under its own weight and bearing no fruits. However without the plant, the struts would serve no purpose. Just like this example, our minds and bodies are locked in a similar situation- without our bodies our minds can’t survive and without our minds our bodies would serve no purpose in existing. The concept of mind and body is complex and intertwined, passing through and ravelled around each other but they not fused or connected.

We hope that you will heed our warning and not meddle with forces we can’t begin to understand. By not supplying us you are killing off your mind and hence destroying your purpose.

15th day of Harvest, 16

To all the citizens on the isle of Humanus

The republic of Corporis hath here by declared war upon the councils of Ingenium for subversion and heresy also of bring established principles of science into disrepute. In addition no peace treaty will be signed until the councils of Ingenium return all previously tithed goods dating to the year 1500 and denounces its heretical thinking on the subject of a mind that is separate from the physical body.

We don’t accept this notion of a mind that could possibly be so complicated it is alien to this world. Mother Nature-the creator of our minds through evolution, is perfect in everyway, even in ways which we can’t comprehend. We see the perfection she has created everyday around us. How can you question nature with your mind? It is as ridiculous as a tomato asking why it is a tomato. We should simply feel blessed that our enhanced ability to think through our vast neural networks has accidentally given us “self-representation” or self consciousness. Indeed we have networks of neurons organised for basic tasks such as bodily needs, but other networks are able to integrate and operate on these basic networks, effectively yielding meta-representations (Siegfried, 00). These then contribute towards our self awareness.

We are at the forefront of our research and we believe we have leading technical expertise in this area. During a time when technology was primitive, perhaps your explanation was valid; accepted because there was no proof otherwise from scientists.

Pax Republica Corporis

A long and terrible war was waged by the two sides. Armies of stout troops poured out from Corporis towards the mountain peak where the palaces of the council of Ingenium lay enclosed in a solid shell of granite. The people of Ingenium, having long been deprived of supplies from Corporis were frail and weak. However from plans drawn up by grand engineers they built gigantic contraptions which were as imaginative as they were deadly in their application. Some spat huge bouts of slime whilst others would make the earth shake.

Eventually, without the leadership of the Ingeniumians, the Corporis war effort grinded to a halt as their organization collapsed from the inside. The republic was in turmoil due to the lack of a central government and coherent regulation. What started as liberation soon turned into a nightmare as supplies were being misdirected, armies sent to attack the wrong targets and everything descended into chaos.

Things weren’t any better for the Ingeniumians as their stockpile gradually dwindled. The massive war machines grinded to a halt and citizens sat within their fortifications watching malnutrition and starvation kill more people than the Coporisian army.

0th day of Harvest, 1658

Corporisians,

Nearly twenty years have passed since your nation declared war upon our innocent Ingenium. Our kingdom is ruined beyond repair and our subjects are nearly all claimed by malnourishment. Long ago have we given up the hope that this terrible war might end in a fair resolution. However we still stand firm by our believe that mind and body is intimately intertwined yet not “connected”. We have not a scientific explanation that would satisfy your requirements, and in lieu of evidence we can only offer our experiences.

Our minds are much like blank canvas, born onto nothing but ready to absorb all that the world has to offer. We call this to “Learn”. Overtime as the permeability of the canvas increases and it is able to hold on to more and more paint we can begin to analyse the ingredients which has been absorbed. Hence we gain the ability to “Think”. Then we are able to break down and recombine these ingredients or create new ingredients similar to those which we have absorbed. This we call to “Act”. All of these processes are agreed to be chemical reactions void of any magical properties. However, the mind is capable of much more than learning, thinking and acting. Our minds have imagination, creativity, passion, humour, empathy, depravity and many more properties which are not explainable by chemical reactions or synapses of neurons. This is the miracle.

Sincerely, the last of the Ingenium

Around the year 1700

Soon after their last correspondence, the Ingeniums became extinct. The surviving Corporisians became feral and lived the lives of beasts thereafter, hunting and gathering in small groups. What once were their civilisation lie now in ruins and the stronghold of the Ingeniums were never entered, lying in hollow and eerie silence.

Curiously at the grand entrance of the stronghold there stands a massive bronze statue of a tomato vines climbing around supporting struts. And all throughout the stronghold grows tomato plants, their vines limp on the ground and bearing nasty green or yellow fruit. Tomatoes were considered poisonous and cursed by the feral people on the island and were never collected.

Plant and Animal Cells

In every living thing, on Earth, there are cells. Cells keep living things organized. Just think about it, there is no way you could do everything you do and just be one cell. You would be one big blob, with many pieces (called organelles) floating around inside you. One of the main purposes of cells is to organize. You have brain cells, stomach cells, bone cells, and many other types of cells. Each is different from the others.

In the same way that there are different kinds of cells inside you, different organisms have different types of cells. Trees have different cells than you and so do dogs. Each of those cells is different in some way. It might be the DNA, or the number of mitochondria. Every cell has a specific job to do.

Animal and plant cells are both eukaryotic. Every animal and plant cell has a nucleus, which contains chromosomes and a nucleolus. The nuclear envelope surrounding the nucleus separates the chromosomes from the cytoplasm; chromosomes carry genes. Animal and plant cells also contain cytoplasm. The most important things to be found in cytoplasm are mitochondria. A mitochondrion contains all the enzymes to obtain energy from glucose. They also have a plasma membrane, which controls what can get in and out of a cell around them. They both have chromatin, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulums, golgi apparatus, lysosomes and cytoskeletons, which are all essential for both cells.

Plant cells are different from animal cells in very obvious ways. Plant cells have a cell wall, where animal cells do not. The cell wall is not living. It has semi-permeable cell membranes, which allows water to enter or leave, by osmosis. When plant cells are put into distilled water they will swell up, but they do not burst. Plant cells also have chloroplasts, which contains the green chemical, called chlorophyll. Plant cells have one large vacuole with cell sap in it, whereas animal cells have many small vacuoles.

Animal cells have very irregular shapes, where plant cells have very regular shapes. Animal cells have cilia and flagella, which are both important parts of the exterior of a cell, and are made up of microtubules. They are used for one main function, movement, either for the cell itself, or the movement of substances around the cell. There are a lot more cilia then flagella, and are very different in lengths and amounts. The cilia and flagella’s movement is controlled by the centrioles (controls the direction of movement of the cilia and flagella).

Plant cells and animal cells are very similar in certain ways. They are also very different in certain ways. They both have a lot of the same parts, but have different parts, which make each one unique. Animal cells and plant cells should not be confused, for they are easy to recognize.

This just isnt my day. Sites are down all over cyberpixels, including of mine. And AIM isnt working either. Im trying to come up with a new design for /despair but that isnt working out for me. Blah!

I did manage to not have to babysit today. But later Aaron and I are going to Ryans to play Halo. I dont even really care for the game, but I dont like sitting home all alone all night, so I go, and its boring to just sit there and watch them play, so I play. Aaron is just tickled pink that Ill play halo with him and his friends instead of being like their wives/girlfriends and complaining about it. I played him last night to get practice and he turned a semi-fun game into a boring science. You cant stay still like that, This does that and see what happens when you do that?, and blah, blah, blah.

Oh, and Bob Berman, writer for the Astronomy magazine is a narrow-minded idiot. So not everyone knows the fundamentals of Astronomy or the universe. What the fuck does he know about the fundamentals of heart surgery? What fundamentals does he know of mechanics? Not everyone can know everything about every subject. Some people have better things to do with their life then to live and breath astronomy. So just because I dont know the names of every single moon orbiting Jupiter makes me an idiot? I just cant believe they published that article. Egoism galore!

A growing amount of economic activity is taking place on the Internet (Weiner, 1). As a result, electronic payment displays a boom although paper based payment methods dominate the payment systems in the U.S. economy. So what is Electronic Payment? Electronic Payment refers to financial transactions that are made without the use of paper documents such as cheques or notes (“A consumer’s guide of electronic payments”, 001).

Recently, there are many different e-payment methods emerging on the web. Facing a wide variety of options, consumers are confused about which one is the best. I believe that the best e-payment must have a stable and secure environment offering protection to the consumer. After comparing three e-payment systems, I have discovered every system has advantages and disadvantages. But, in general, I think credit/debit card online payment is the best system in E-Business currently.

In this essay, I will introduce three categories of e-payments and their working processes, and also analyse the advantages and disadvantages of each systems. First of all is the credit/debit card on-line payment. The second one is personal on-line payment and the last one is E-money. This essay can help to illustrate why I believe the credit/debit card is the best system in E-Business. This research is based on the America E-Business environment because of its most popular use of the Internet.

First of all, I would like to introduce the first type of e-payment instrument-Credit/Debit card online payment. Their boom has contributed to the huge point of sales (POS) and automatic teller machine (ATM) networks (Feiler, 1.p.4). Because of the nature of electronic information transaction, credit/debit card became the preliminary e-payment tools when web-business emerged on the Internet. In fact, an estimated, 15 billion transactions (8% of volume) worth $1,5 billion (87% of value) were operated on the web in the U.S. in 000 (Sienkiewicz and Bochicchio, 00, p.6). Now let us look how the credit/debit card works on the web.

Help with essay on E-payment: which is your best choice

cheap essay writing service

Normally each web merchant has his own credit/debit clearing service agency whose computers connect with every card issued by banks and financial companies. When purchasers place an order, they must offer information of their card such as card number, expiry date and name of cardholder. After formatting the transaction detail appropriately, the agency sends this information to the issuing bank to request transaction authorization. Finally, the issuing bank approves the transfer of money to acquiring bank who in turn, credits the merchants account (“How It Works - Credit Card Processing”, 00).

The advantages of credit/debit card are obvious. The primary point is that 75.1% American people own a credit card and .8% have a debit card (Stavins, 001, p.). Moreover, the credit/debit card works on a large and stable electronic network which links cardholders, merchants, issuing banks, merchant banks and credit card companies. This network permits payers and payees to deal with the money transfer directly even they have different bank accounts. Also, the usage of a credit card is protected by the Business Law of America. For example, if a credit card holder orders a commodity and the commodity is not delivered, the credit card-issuing bank is required to treat the matter as a billing error and resolve it such as getting the card holder reimbursed or the merchandise/services delivered (Spiotto, 001).

However, credit/debit card online payment is not a financial instrument without any drawbacks. Security is one of the problems. In my experience, I will pay my bill on the POS by credit/debit card without any hesitation but before I place an order and submit my credit card information on the Internet, I will consider carefully. People are afraid of hackers stealing their credit information. Another big problem is higher charges. In the food retailer market, the cost of credit transaction is five times higher than that of cash (Stavins, 001, p.1). Expensive transaction fees also obstruct the growth of small businesses on the web which are experiencing E-Business boom currently. The third problem is the long clearing time which means the payees need to wait several days to confirm the money reception. E-retailers need quick currency cycle in order to sustain a good business operation (Morton, 001, p.1). For this reason, e-retailers do not like to use credit/debit card online payment system.

The second category of e-payment system is Personal online payment, which is an online payment systems that are Internet-based systems for making small retail payments and have recently emerged as an alternative to cash, cheques, and credit cards. All these systems use the web to convey payment information, but they differ in the type of accounts they access. Proprietary Account System (PAS) and Bank Account-Based System (BABS) are two main examples (Kuttner and McAndrews, 001).

In PAS, funds are transferred between special purpose accounts maintained by a non-bank provider. When payers and payees open accounts and save some money in those accounts on a same service provider, payers just need to key in the data about the fund transfer following payment delivery instruction and then the notification and confirmation can be completed by email. The service provider’s computer will transfer the money between the two users’ accounts immediately.

Using PAS has many benefits. One of the benefits is quick and simple processing. PAS uses the email as a tool. This is easy to be operated and delivered immediately. Moreover, on-line payments are inexpensive compared with credit and debit cards. That is why the PAS is quickly replacing the credit card, paper cheque and cash after it was built on the web for on-line auctions in 1 (Kuttner and McAndrews, 001). Nevertheless, the drawback is if you prefer to do e-business on several websites, you must open several accounts by different non-bank providers and save some money in each account. The money does not transfer between the real accounts directly.

In Bank Account-Based System (BABS), funds are transferred between demand deposit accounts at banks. BABS is operated by Automate Clearing House (ACH) which is a secure, private electronic payment transfer system that connects all U.S. financial institutions and is monitored by the America Federal Reserve Bank. How does it work? A company sends an electronic file to its bank and ACH operator, usually the Federal Reserve Bank. After checking, the ACH then sends a file back to the bank that contains all of the deposits which were made to its clients’ accounts. Finally, the bank credits the funds to the receivers (Trombly, 001).

According to Gartner research, 17% of business-to-business payments are now made electronically and ACH occupies % (Trombly, 001). BABS is less expensive than most alternatives. For example the cost of using a credit card is 15-0 cents per transaction compared with a fee of just .5 to 5 cents per ACH transaction. Unlike PAS, the money is transferred to sellers’ account directly by ACH. However, ACH faces a big hidden problem in there is a gap in the law which does not provide effective protection to those who use ACH to do business on the web (Spiotto, 001). For instance, consumers may not get their money back if the sellers do not deliver the ordered goods to them once the deal is operated by ACH. Although consumers can claim in the courts, it is a costly process.

The third category of e-payment is called “E-money”. Most e-moneys are designed for the special purpose of business on the web and it includes digital cash, digital wallet, virtual points, and virtual credit card.

The digital cash and digital wallet work similarly as following Retailers download the software that accepts the currency, and customers download software that offers this currency (Angwin, 000). The advantage is they limit fraud, because they can only be used on appointed websites for a fixed amount of purchases. A big obstacle for them is a chicken-and-egg problem. Retailers dont want to install new software unless they see a lot of customers using them. Customers dont want to download software unless they see a lot of retailers accepting them.

Users earn virtual currency for viewing ads or filling out marketing surveys, that is virtual points. They can spend the currency at retailers that have agreed to accept it (Angwin, 000). Virtual points help retailers lock in customers to their products. The value for customers is that they can get free money if they are willing to part with some personal information. Unfortunately, it meets the same bar as digital cash and wallet.

The last one is virtual credit card. A bank asks its credit-card customers to download some software onto their computers. Whenever they shop, that software generates a one-time credit card number for the purchase (Angwin, 000).You do not need to submit actual card information online so it is very safe. But the possible problem is the finite number of credit-card numbers that can be generated and the difficulty of recycling disposable numbers.

In this essay, I have stated three main categories of e-payment systems including advantages and disadvantages. The most popular e-payment is credit/debit card online payment. Then, personal online payment system is a fast growing e-payment instrument. Lastly, E-money is a newly emerging system in the E-Business world.

In conclusion, I believe that credit/debit card online payment is the best system currently. First of all, any payment tools must link to a bank or financial companies and at the same time most banks or these financial companies are card issuing institutions. Furthermore, credit/debit card payment has a huge community of users, which is unlikely to be exceeded in the short term. Last reason is the most important that America business law offers complete protection on using credit card. Whatever consumers choose, there are three important criteria that must be kept in mind. They are security, convenience and charges (Morton, 001, p.1).

Aggression is natural…well is it? Some comment it is borne with nurture the

environment. Are some individuals more aggressive than others, are there levels of

aggression. Is an instinctive reaction for one dissimilar to that of another? Is our personal level of aggression dependant on our background and our up-bringing? Surely if one is brought up being indirectly taught the “respectable” or “social” level of aggression than that would contribute to that individual’s response.

Is aggression socialized dependant on the class or certain society? Does stature within the social environment teach individuals to become either more or less aggressive? All these questions and yet no conclusive answers… who are we to comment on the aggressive nature of any other individual but ourselves? Does our whole system of living reflect that of investigating others lives without stopping to screen our own? Personal levels of aggression are indeed what they state themselves to be, ‘personal’.

When viewing the different situations where aggression is indeed overused, or maybe just “acceptable to be used”, many occasions arise. When survival is paramount, our basic or unconscious even immediate response would be to react using force or aggression. To protect ourselves or others from harm, our way of life, aggression does indeed become a natural virtue. The denotative definition of the word aggression is “either a provoked or unprovoked attack”. Take away the fist words and a more appropriate definition is just “an attack” this is certainly a generic definition but one to be used wisely. Aggression is an outburst of emotion from both internal and external influences.

Acceptable levels of aggression are biased. Male vs female, assertive vs aggressive. Where is the line drawn, who is to say that a woman’s response is aggressive when from a man’s mouth it is considered assertive? Who defines our responses? Is there an ominous observer watching over us and correcting our responses claiming them to either be “socially acceptable” or “socially unacceptable”. When is it acceptable to use aggressive force?? the answers to these question will continue to pluge society for years to come. so we all must ask..is agression natural?

In all, businesses and government policies have been influenced by environmentalism and to ‘do what is right’ and as we head into the future, the environmental discourse is showing positive signs of maturing.

1. Introduction

Environmentalism is becoming more important in influencing government policy and business behaviour. Many people view businesses and government policy as the cause of various economic and social ills. Due to these views, grass- root movements have risen to keep the government and businesses in line. One of the major movements has been environmentalism.

. Environmentalism

Environmentalism is an organised movement of concerned citizens, businesses and government seeking to protect and improve people’s living environments. The emergence of environmentalism grew from the 160s as being the vogue. In the 170s, it was regarded as being a nice thought but not economically practical. It was not until environmental issues gained political momentum during the 180s that we saw business and the general public accept that we all need to become kinder to the environment.

Currently there is a now clear expectation from the retailing community to preserve the environment and out natural recourses in addition to operating in an economically efficient manner. Environmentalists are concerned with marketing’s effects on the environment and with the costs of serving consumers. Concerns include things such as loss of the atmosphere’s ozone layer, water and air pollution, toxic wastes, endangered wildlife species and acid rain.

Environmentalists are not against marketing and consumption; they simply want people and organisations to operate with more care for the environment and thus achieve sustainable growth. The marketing system’s goal should be to maximise quality of life and the environment not just to maximise consumption and consumer satisfaction.

. Business Behaviour

Business behaviour as been increasingly influenced by environmentalists to the point where they have responded with “green marketing”. This includes developing ecologically safer products, recyclable packaging, better pollution controls and energy efficient operations. Businesses are reducing energy waste, some by huge percentages. More and more are turning to recycling and more careful use of resources. Others have spent fortunes on cleaner technologies and less destructive ways of doing things. These businesses are at the forefront of a revolution in business behaviour that the environmentalists who depend on campaigning for a living dare not acknowledge.

Recent national survey’s found that 5% of the adult population didn’t buy a product in the previous year because of the concern that it or its packaging might harm the environment. Overall 77% said that their buying decisions were influenced by a businesses behaviour and environmental reputation. Similarly, 74% were more likely to purchases a product with a biodegradable packaging and recyclable packaging.

Mc Donald’s is an example of a business that has been influenced by environmentalism and now practises green marketing. In the past Mc Donald’s purchased Coca-Cola syrup in plastic bags encased in cardboard. Now, the syrup is delivered by a tanker truck and pumped directly into its restaurants to the storage vats. The change saved some 150 million kilograms of packaging a year. All napkins, bags and tray liners in Mc Donald’s restaurants are mage from recycled paper. The polystyrene containers used for burgers were dropped in favour of more environmentally friendly packaging. For a company the size of Mc Donald’s even small changes make a big difference. For instance, just making its drinking straws 0% lighter saved the company over million kilograms of waste per year.

Other businesses that have jumped on to the environmental bandwagon include Wal-mart who recycles shopping bags, aluminium cans and rechargeable batteries. They also measure the amount of daylight entering the building and adjust the light fixtures so that only the necessary amount of electrical light is used. Another business influenced by environmentalism is GreenDisk. This company take disks containing unsold versions of software and electronically wipes them and reuse them. Disks that are not reused take up to 450 million years to decompose.

4. Government Policy

The environmental movement that began in the 160s started with public outcry to the federal government for action. Having clean air, clean water, protection of forests and animal life was nearly a ubiquitous desire of people all over the world. Now, over thirty years later, it has become clear that environmentalism has influenced government policies. Governments are now addressing environmental problems that are complex, unique and require a flexible, results-oriented approach. As our knowledge of environmental science has blossomed, so has the willingness of a new cadre of participants to help find solutions.

However problems with government policies still arise as different environmental polices vary widely from country to country. Unfortunately uniform worldwide standards are not expected for another 15 years or more. An example of this is in Switzerland and Germany PVC soft-drink bottles cannot be used, however they are preferred in France, which has an extensive recycling process for them. Due to these different standards companies are finding it difficult to develop standard environmental practise that work around the world. Federal government around the world need to address these environmental ills for a cleaner, brighter and healthier future.

5. Conclusion

As we head into the future, the environmental discourse is showing signs of maturing. The business communities see environmentalism, as an important factor in decision making and government policies are strongly influenced by worldwide environmental standards. While some businesses have rushed to make money by catering to the public’s mounting concern for the environment others have just done what is basically required. In all, businesses and government policies have been influenced by environmentalism and to ‘do what is right’. Environmental farsightedness today will pay off tomorrow for both the customer and business itself.
